She doesn’t take her eyes off me when she walks through the door. The rest of her smudged makeup is gone. Her hair is loose. She’s wearing a nightgown that looks more like a tank. The straps are so thin I can barely see them since it’s almost the color of her fair skin. It flirts with the top of her thighs and hangs on her nipples that are standing front and center, as if they’re demanding me to wrap my lips around them.

This isn’t unusual. Ever since Nic put his hands on her, I’ve all but seen her totally naked. And even though that’s a line we’ve yet to cross, I’ve touched every inch of her in one way or another—caring for her or worshiping her.

Because she deserves nothing less than that.

Hell, she deserves more.

I force myself to focus on her eyes and do my best to ignore my swelling cock that very much wants to punch me in the gut. “It’s been a long day, baby. When we left this room, you were pissed. I’m sure you have questions. Do you want to sleep or do you want to talk?”

Her tits rise and fall on a bated breath that leaves me hanging. “I was angry.”

“Was?”

She lifts her slim shoulder a touch, like she’s as confused as I am. “I have questions. They’ve popped in and out of my head all night.”

I take a step closer but don’t lay a finger on her. She seems smaller when she’s like this. Wearing almost nothing. Not made up. Standing before me on bare feet.

I fucking love it.

Even though she just found out who I really am, when we’re like this, there aren’t any pretenses.

We are who we are.

And for me, there’s nothing more satisfying or real than this.

The need to touch her is overwhelming. I have to fist my hands to keep myself from pulling her into my arms.

“Ask me anything. Nothing is off limits. I’ll tell you anything you want, baby.”

She rolls her lips in, pressing them into a thin line, but her first question is not what I expect. “Are you going to arrest Rocco?”

I tell her the truth. “It depends.”

Her tone turns defensive. “On what?”

“I moved him into the house to keep an eye on him and to do what I could to keep him clean. He hasn’t done anything to implicate himself yet. My goal is to turn him after the takedown. It’ll be up to him to cooperate or not. He’ll have options, and it won’t have anything to do with the damn GED.”

“Why are you doing that for him?”

I tell her the truth. “Because he’s young, his parents fucked up his life, and assholes like the Jackals are taking advantage of that.”

That silences her.

“What else?” I press. I’m bursting at the seams to let loose and tell her every-fucking-thing.

She mulls that over for a second before she finally speaks. “Are you going to arrest my father?”

“Yes.” My answer comes quickly, and when she doesn’t respond, I add, “Even if you don’t like the answers, I’m done lying to you.”

She pulls in a deep breath. “I’m tired of people lying to me. I’m tired of them using me. I refuse to be a pawn any longer.”

“I never treated you like a possession, Landyn. Not once.”

“No, you haven’t.” She brings her hands up to her middle and twists her fingers. “I need to know one more thing tonight.”

“Told you I’d tell you anything you want to know.”

“A few days ago, I overheard Spencer talking to someone on the phone. He said you were looking for Nic. Then today in your office, you said the same thing.”
