“I’ll be with you in a minute,” he replied without hesitation.
I ended the call.
Fred also wasn’t staying here. He lived in an apartment beside the mansion.
Seemed like Mr. Douche face didn’t like company.
Why?
After a couple more minutes of gawking and wandering, Fred arrived. I’d been in luxurious cars three times now. But I still couldn’t help the shiver when I climbed in the backseat of this one.
I didn’t know what type this one was. But it must have cost a fortune.
I watched him scan his fingerprint at the entrance. Of course, the billionaire had security measures.
After giving Fred the address, I nestled in the seat. Sarah had argued about picking me up, but I’d humbly declined. I don’t know why it just felt odd.
Especially while I was still in my previous apartment.
Previous.
A wave of nausea hit me. All this was only temporal. It had to be.
“We have arrived, ma’am.”
“Thank you, Fred. I’ll give you a call when I’m done.”
Thank heaven Sierra had suggested the flannel shirt. Today seemed to be extra windy.
I’d barely stood for five minutes when I noticed a sleek white car approaching. Sarah.
“Girl, get in,” the window sank down as her cheery voice reached me.
I hopped in the passenger’s seat. And resisted the urge to breathe in when a luxurious, feminine scent hit me.
“I love love love your dress,” she squealed, briefly eyeing my dress before returning her attention to the road.
“Thank you.” Something about her giggle made me smile. “I love yours t-”
“Don’t even think about it,” she scoffed. “I’m wearing a boring gown.”
My smile grew wider at her expression. Her lips were puckered, and her tongue sticking out a corner.
Goofy too.
Loosening my wrung fingers, I finally relaxed in the seat. Gracing my eyes with the neighbourhood’s beautiful scenery.
If anything, billionaires should have a longer life span. They just had the privilege of so many beautiful things at once.
“Renee,” I whipped my head to see her staring at me. We had reached a red light. “I’m glad you’re going to be part of the family.”
I swallowed.
“You know I suspected something between you two the other time at the office,” she snickered. “I just didn’t know it was this…. intense. It’s really nice not being the only female daughter in the family anymore.”
“Yes, it’s…nice to be part of the family.” I forced the lump in my throat.
“I’m happy that it’s you, you know. After a failed marriage and many years of shutting people out, he finally gets engaged.” I didn’t need to see her eyes to tell how hurt she was. Her saggy shoulders said it all.
