There was a staring contest I presume, for a short moment, before the short man scampered away.
Relief filled me when he disappeared. But I was soon on edge again from the stranger… the good kind of edge.
The man finally came to light, and my breath hitched. If I thought his voice was attractive, then words couldn’t describe how he looked. Maybe one word can though, a god.
Broad shoulders and a tall frame that towered attractively came into view. He stood about six feet, a perfect contrast to my 5’5 height. He was the complete opposite of Zaccheus.
He had lean muscles, a broad chest, and presumably ripped abs.
“Did you come alone?” Alluring grey eyes pierced through my bones.
I blinked when he drew closer to me. “Yes. I-I mean no.”
“Then where is he?” he pressed his plump lips into a thin line. I suddenly couldn’t focus on anything else.
Shit, I’d give anything to have those lips on certain parts of my body.
I knew I shouldn’t feel this way; not especially with what had almost happened. But something was soothing about this stranger’s presence.
Call me delusional.
I was still gawking at him when he cleared his throat. Only then did I remember he had asked a question. “He?”
“Your date.”
Oh…
“Friends,” I corrected. “But they have um…excused themselves.”
My face started to turn red. I expected him to understand. His eyes held my brown ones before he tilted his head.
How could I be so affected when I could barely see his face? I think I knew.
His hands were tucked into his pockets. His sleeves were also rolled to his elbow. And the first few buttons of his crisp white shirt were undone.
This man stood with a certain regalia that made my heart race… and my core drip. Very unusual of me and not my proudest moment.
I knew he looked just as handsome beneath the mask.
“I see,” he finally let out. “We should get some fresh air.”
We?
He waited for me to lead the way before trailing very closely behind me. It took everything not to falter in my steps. But we eventually made it outside.
My eyes welcomed the natural light as I took in the cool breeze. “Thank you,” I whispered once we stopped at a distance from the event. Car park, to be precise.
Without glancing at me, he let out a low ‘hmm.’
The sound once again did things to my body. I knew I’d leave here a soaked mess.
“My name is Renee,” I tried to distract myself with my words.
“Hmm…” he hummed again. He seemed to be enjoying the cool breeze and I didn’t want to rain on his parade. But I couldn’t help it.
“H- how did you find me?” My throat was suddenly dry. Perhaps I was now registering what had almost happened. Or I couldn’t stand the shivers his eyes on mine brought.
“I had been watching you.” He spoke like it was the most normal thing to say. I didn’t find it creepy though. I could never.
