There was a single rose on the table along with two dimly lit candles.
“You look beautiful.”
I looked up to find him gazing intently at me. “Thank you, handsome,” I blushed.
He chuckled before making a subtle signal with his fingers.
In an instant, a short waiter appeared with food. As he placed the never-ending bowls on the table, I glanced around.
The canopy was decorated just like the outside, adorned with flowers and candles.
The waiter bowed slightly before he left.
I looked to see various seafood carefully arranged in bowls.
Lobster tails drizzled in what seemed to be sauce, grilled fish adorned in slices and leaves, crab legs and other items I didn’t know.
Beside it all was a tall bottle of red wine.
I’d never had seafood. But recently, I’d been craving it. Once again, he’d satisfied another of my endless cravings.
Choosing to start with a familiar item, I nudged the crab tail closer.
“Good choice,” his voice suddenly sounded, and I brought my gaze to him.
“That would pave the way for your taste buds,” he winked.
We ate our food in silence. The distant waves and chill breeze were all the ambiance needed for me to revel in his presence.
Life was good with him. He made life good.
I moved to the other bowl containing the lobster when I noticed something odd. Damien’s fingers.
They seemed to be unsteady as he held the fork. I furrowed my brows, sneaking a glance at him.
His face seemed neutral. But why—
My thoughts were suddenly interrupted when he dropped his fork and adjusted himself.
He stared at me with an intense gaze that made my heart race.
“Renee,” he breathed, his voice deep and smooth as the water. I swallowed thickly. Suddenly the atmosphere was filled with an odd sense of anticipation.
“Like a ray of light, you came into my life. You brought warmth and happiness to my otherwise dull life….”
“…When I thought it was over, you showed me that it wasn’t. You brought me out of my dark place and showed me light …. You showed me true love.”
My breathing increased as I watched him stand. Slowly he walked to my side and without breaking eye contact, he went down on one knee.
Tears filled my eyes as he dipped his hand into his breast pocket to bring out a small velvet box. When he opened it, a tear of joy slipped down my cheek.
The huge diamond ring glinted against the soft glow of the sun.
“You are my light. My happiness. And I want you to be my world. I want to spend forever loving you. Renee Walker, will you marry me?”
My heart swelled with different pleasant emotions. Awe. Gratitude. Excitement. Happiness. Love.
Until it burst into one single word.
