She scoffed angrily. “But at what cost?”
“Their company is doing better now. They learned. Giving you up to the Chicago lawyer was a necessary evil. He had what it took to help them.”
“Nonsense! He had what it took to ruin them… to ruin me. The contract was signed on the basis I could never leave,” she breathed harshly. “I could never see my one true love again or Gavin would take control of the company and do whatever he wanted with it.”
“Meanwhile, you- you turned your back on me when I needed you the most. You shut everybody out. You fucking attained success a few months later and shut us out completely.”
I watched with a shaky breath as contempt settled in her eyes. “There’s nothing you can do now. My revenge plan was a success. I took the one thing you were beginning to love. I made you feel the pain I felt. I made you feel betrayed.”
Thick silence hung in the air.
“The signatures. The contract. Everything was all me,” she smiled. “I’m sure you sent her away. You hurt her. Now you lost it all.”
“Get out!”
“After seven years I still don’t love Gavin. I’m stuck in an empty life all because of you.”
“I said get out,” I gritted.
She squared her shoulders before releasing a deep breath. “Have a nice life brother.”
Anger filled my pores once the door banged shut. Clenching my fists, I threw them into the table. Pain tugged at my nerves.
I wanted more.
With a loud grunt, I slammed my fists into the table again. The pain still wasn’t enough to override my anger. So, I repeated.
I was angry.
Slam.
At myself.
Slam.
For being so foolish.
Slam.
I felt the liquid before I saw it. Crimson coated my knuckles. But I didn’t care.
Fuck!
Shoving my hand into my hair, I tugged harshly at the strands, with a heaving chest, and the reality of my mistake clawing at my throat.
I had made a mistake. Fuck, this was beyond a mistake. It was an irreparable damage.
…But I knew what I had to do.

I glanced at the sky. As usual, it was dull, and the weather was cold.
I could feel the snowflakes drop on my hair.
Shit. I definitely should have come out with a hoodie. Now I had two options.
