“Is she breathing?”

“What happened to the room?”

I focus on the last comment yelled out. The glamour starting to wear off on at least one of them.

“SILENCE,” I fill my voice with my power, and they all stop talking.

“Names?” I hiss as I shift my love into my arms bridal style.

One by one, they all reveal their identities.

“Emma Ainsley.”

“Abigail Yung.”

“Olivia Colla.”

“Mackenzie Diggory.”

I glance down at my beloved.

“And her,” I ask the group.

“Madeline Davies.” I smile.

Even her surname confirms who she is to me.

Her eyes flutter, and I frown. It normally takes hours for the connection to break. It’s only been a few minutes. Alarm fills my veins.

“You four, follow me.” I walk briskly to the door and use my shoulder to break the door from its weekend hinges.

As soon as they are out in the fresh evening air, they start to regain their senses. I look around, knowing my best friend is lurking somewhere, and sigh when his LandRover pulls up in front of us.

“It’s going to be a tight fit.” I mummer as I lift my chin in the direction of my wife’s female companions.

“Ugh, what is that stench?” Gaius says as he passes the women.

He’s glaring at the woman who introduced herself as Emma.

“Stench? I’m sure I don’t know what you mean.” She crosses her arms as the one called Makenzie yells at me.

“Look, dude. We aren’t going anywhere with you. Put our friend down now! She needs an ambulance.” What little of my patience I had left snaps, and I send out a wave of compulsion, knocking them all out.

“For fuck’s sake Erik.” Gaius picks up Emma and groans.

“Apples,” His face turns green.

“Stop your grumbling and get them in the car.” I pull open the front seat and pull Madeline into my lap, cradling her head into my shoulder.

“I will keep your friends safe, my love.” I kiss her forehead.

I close my eyes and get flashes of what memories she’s seeing.

“Something is different,” I whisper to my friend when I feel him get behind the wheel.

“Oh? Let me guess, they’re all your wife this time? That would be interesting indeed.” I flip him off as the car starts moving.

“No, you prick. She’s different.” I couldn’t put my feelings into words.
