Daniel raises our hands, kissing the back of mine. “That’s my good girl.”

I beam at him.

“We’re here,” he announces, pulling the car onto the lot.

Together, we walk into the station. Sheriff McCallister jumps to his feet as soon as he sees us.

“Th-Thank you for coming down.” The sheriff stutters, “I appreciate your family’s understanding over our earlier mishap.”

A man I assume to be Deputy Cooper glares at us from where he sits at his desk.

Daniel smirks at him. “Deputy.”

“Officer, actually,” the sheriff corrects. Well, that would explain the death glares.

I look at Daniel for confirmation, and he nods that he and his family are responsible.

The sheriff rubs his chin. “Well, we’ll make this as quick as we can. Let’s go to my office and talk, shall we, Charlie?”

Taking a deep breath, I straighten my back and follow him, leaving Daniel waiting for me by the desks.

You got this, Charlie.

CHAPTERTWENTY-NINE

Charlie

Pride runs through me. Charlotte did great.

Of course, she did. My girl was made for this, for me.

The sheriff ate everything up. Cooper not so much, but his demotion means he’s less of a threat, and with his livelihood on the line, the inquisitive little shit will be more careful.

I turn onto the road leading out of town, itching to get back to the cabin where my family waits.

Charlotte has changed everything in such a small time. Never before have I felt the need to rush home to be with my family.

I smile, knowing Charlotte is now included in that.My family.A thrill goes through me at the thought of Charlotte helping me to add more members to it.

My hand runs up her leg beneath her dress, settling on her inner thigh.

I have never been prouder of anyone, not even Michael.

My good girl.

The need to show her is overwhelming, and after that performance, she has more than earned her reward.

We have only been on the main road for a few minutes before Duke’s comes into view. Signaling, I turn onto the parking lot, driving past the gas pumps.

Charlotte frowns. “Do we need gas?”

“No.” I climb out of the truck. Walking around it quickly, I pull her door open. Leaning over her, I release her seat belt. “I need you.”

I press a quick kiss to Charlotte’s mouth. Shock and surprise fill her face.

I raise a brow in question. Charlotte grins, shuffling to the edge of the seat. Raising her arms, she silently asks me to help her down.

I laugh, the sound still foreign to me, but I happily tuck my hands under her ass and lift her from my truck.
