“Who is she and what the fuck is she going on about?”
“Kylo can explain the rest to you since you’re one of us. Long story short, we were friends and then I found out her and her family were behind all the shit that went down,” Bo says with a rumble, her tone is chilling. “She fucking knows I have no clout over here, that’s why she came back, but the question is, who the fuck is helping her?”
“Warrick,” Shadow says, pulling herself to her feet. “It’s down to him, I know it.” I wanted to kill the fucker in the first place, but now, I’m not going to let him come after my family like this.
“Babe, who runs this side?” Bo asks, turning her eyes to my brother, and I watch him staring into space.
“My dad does,” Shadow says with a snarl. What the fuck?“Fuck, why didn’t I think of this before.”
“What are you going on about, Shadow?” I ask, my unease building. I stand up and make my way over to her, the need to be close to her is all consuming.
“I told you he would change his mind eventually,” she says, and the unease ramps up to dread. “If he knows how much she hates you, he would bring her here and put things into motion to break the deal. I bet Warrick’s dad knew about the issues you have with her and it went from there.”
“How does Warrick fit into this?” I ask as I hear frantic tapping. We all look to Deacon who is staring at his phone.
“I don’t know, but Sam’s right. It looks like her dad’s trying to make waves to back out and get her home,” he says, and I feel a stab in my gut.
“Are you one of us?” Bo snarls, turning her attention to my girl, the anger is palpable in the air. “I know we spoke and I know some of the shit going on, do you really want to go back to that?”
“You know I don’t!” Shadow snaps, glaring at Bo. Pride swells within me as she faces her down. “ I can get into his office and see what I can find?”
“You’re not going alone,” I snarl, tucking her into my side. Brantley scoffs from his seat. Shit, I forgot he was here. “Brant, you okay…?”
“Shit, sorry, Brantley, I didn’t see you there,” my brother apologizes with sincerity. “Thanks for keeping an eye on him,” he says with a chuckle.
“Something else I’m missing here?” I ask, watching the pair of them.
“Chill out, man,” Brantley scolds me. “Your bro reached out when Bo made the decision for a second chance, I was stoked to hear you would be coming here and I’d get my best friend back.”
“Sam, can you do it now?” Bo asks Shadow. I look down at my girl and I can see the determination in her eyes. When this shit is all over, I really need to know how bad her life has been. I want to know everything.
“I’ll take Kylo with me now,” she says, shrugging my arm off her shoulders.
Bo looks between us, and Shadow nods before heading out into toward the front door. I look around the room, seeing the unease on everyone’s faces… I’ve got a bad feeling shit’s about to blow up.
“Kylo, c’mon!” Shadow calls.

SAM
We’ve been sitting in the driveway for a good ten minutes, my attention isn’t on the house though, it’s on the entrance to the zoo. I feel so bad I haven’t seen Mr. Tickles since before the shit show of a meal. I look at my childhood home, and I don’t feel anything other than guilt at Jace not being here anymore. I wish he was, because I would’ve taken him away with me. Although, knowing my father, he wouldn’t have gone through with the deal if he was.
“You don’t have to do this,” Kylo says from the passenger seat, and I look over to him. His eyes are ringed with black, almost hiding the gorgeous blue color I know.
“I want to because I feel like it’s my fault she’s here. I saw the look in Bo’s eyes and I know shit’s about to go down,” I mutter. The feeling of lead in my chest when I realized Jade was the villain in Bo’s story has me feeling like shit.
“Well, if we’re going to do it, we best get it done,” he says with a smirk. “Trust me, Shadow, you don’t want to meet a psychotic Bo.”
“Nah, I’m not worried,” I joke. “It sounds like it could be fun.”
His brows shoot to his hairline and he looks at me like I’ve lost my mind. I chuckle as I climb out of the car and make my way over to the door. I hear his door close and the gravel under his feet, and I turn at the last minute to see him eyeing up the ugly ass water fountain my dad had installed two years ago.
I step into the hallway, the house is quiet for once but it doesn’t give me any nostalgia like I thought it would.
“Ah, Miss. Whitlock, it’s nice to see you,” Adam says as he makes his way through from the kitchen, “By any chance are you planning on a visit with Mr. Tickles while you’re here?”
“Mr. Tickles?” Kylo rumbles in confusion. Adam ’s eyes widen at the newcomer, and I chuckle when I see Kylo eyeing him suspiciously.
