Chapter eight – Nova

Theroomeruptsincheers and shouting as I blink dazedly into the room.

What the hell is happening?

Violet is frozen, her mouth half-open as she turns to me.

“Five million dollars,” she murmurs. Her eyes sweep me up and down. “And from the King pack, no less.”

My knees threaten to give out altogether.

Surely, Adam won’t match that. He can’t.

Who the hell pays five million dollars for someone they’ve never even spoken to? Whoarethese alphas?

Doesn’t matter. All that matters is Violet Maura raising her arm in the air, the shouts quieting down as she calls for silence.

“We have five million dollars!” she declares breathlessly. “But will we end there?”

I close my eyes.

“Going…”

Please.

“Going…”

I cross my fingers and pray to every damn deity under the sun.

“Gone! Nova Chevnik to the King pack, for five million dollars! I do believe that’s the largest bid we’veeverreceived—”

Violet’s twittering words fall on deaf ears. I hear a furious roar from in front of me and Adam appears, a vein throbbing in his forehead as he grips the front of the stage.

“What did you do?” he shouts at me furiously. “Nova!”

Backing away from him, I shake my head. The barest grin tilts at my mouth, a shocked laugh on my lips. “I have no idea. Ask them.”

He snarls at me as Julian grips his shoulder. “This isn’t over. Thirty days, Nova, and we’re coming for you.”

I don’t get a chance to respond before a familiar face appears next to him.

“Don’t be a sore loser, Williams.” The alpha with the green eyes claps Adam on the shoulder and he pulls away with a snarled curse. “We won, fair and square.”

As his eyes sweep over me, I swallow. I’m going home with these men.

And I’ll be spending the next thirty days with them.

He tilts his head, brown curls falling lazily across his forehead as he pushes them back. “Don’t be shy, now, sweetheart. I don’t bite. Asher might, though.”

“Seth.” The name is a snap in the air as another alpha stalks to the front of the stage, Seth stepping back with a wink. His coal-black hair is shaved at the sides and longer on top, perfectly tousled as he stares at me with copper-colored eyes. “Let’s go, Nova Chevnik.”

I blanch, looking around me. “Right – right now? I mean… isn’t there paperwork?”

He raises a dark, sardonic eyebrow at me. “Scared, little one?”

His voice is cool, steady, as though he hasn’t just agreed to pay outfive million freaking dollarsfor the pleasure of my company. Adam is still seething as he watches me, his face dark with fury. I look from him to who I’m pretty sure is Asher.

Putting my shoulders back, I stride to the front of the stage, not looking in Adam’s direction as I stare down at the men who essentially own me. The golden-haired alpha walks up behind them, leaning in to murmur something in Asher’s ear. He nods, but his eyes haven’t left my face. There’s a challenge there.
