“I know.” I’m really trying hard not to laugh. “But it could here. That’s all processed garbage. We might not get sick and can put anything we want into our bodies without worrying about side effects, but here, they don’t live forever.”
“Oh.” She sits back against the booth. “Sometimes I forget it’s not only the humans who die eventually.”
“While the fae live longer than most mortals, they still can get ill, still die of old age.”
“That’s shitty,” she mumbles, looking over her menu. “I was about to say maybe I’d rather be a fairy than a demon princess, but nevermind. The thought of leaving you and the others behind makes my stomach do weird stuff that I don’t like.”
She’s not even looking at me as she says it, being so open it’s like she’s not even aware of her words. Maybe she doesn’t mean to, maybe these are things that feel right in her mind. But I smile, loving the fact that she included me in that. That the idea of not having me makes her feel sick.
Because I feel the same way about her.
“Abby?”
“Yeah?” She looks up at me with her bright blue eyes.
“You're not going to lose me... or them. We’re with you for life.”
Chapter 18
Abby
Supper was amazing. The food was unlike anything I’ve had before.
As we walk hand in hand down the street of Moss Meadows, I can’t keep the smile off my face. Noah isn’t a chatty person, but I don’t mind. Just being here with him like this means the world to me. And it hasn’t stopped him from planning some fun and thoughtful things for us to do.
“Tomorrow we can go to the ski resort about a half hour away from here. I thought we could leave after breakfast so that we could have a whole day there, seeing how today is half over.”
“I think that’s a good idea. What did you have in mind for tonight?” I ask, smiling up at him. His cheeks are a little rosy from the cold.
Thankfully, it’s not cold enough that I’m freezing my butt off, but any time I see Noah look like the cold might be getting to him, I send a wave of heat through his body. I had to hide my laugh when I did it the first time because the poor guy looked so confused. It didn’t take him long to realize what I was doing, and he looked grateful.
“You mentioned you wanted to go skating and sledding. There’s a skating rink just at the end of this street. We have some sleds back at the cabin and a hill not too far from it. Just the two of us. If that’s okay?”
I stop in front of him and lift my arms up to wrap around his neck. “More than okay.” I pull his head down so that I can kiss him.
He moans against my lips, and I deepen the kiss. My body heats and not because of my powers. I’m about to say we should just head back to the cabin when someone clears their throat.
