Chapter 4
Abby
“Mom!” Libby shoutsas she rushes into the kitchen, a massive smile on her face. Megan looks over at her from where she’s standing at the stove, making Zed’s birthday supper. “Mom, guess who’s here.”
“Who?” she asks, brows furrowing.
“Frankie!” From the look on Libby’s face, I guess Frankie is someone to be excited over? I’ve never heard any of them mention this guy before.
“Really?” Megan gasps, her eyes lighting up.
“Who’s Frankie?” Leo asks.
“I don’t know.” I shrug.
Megan and Libby both rush out of the kitchen.
“Guess we’re about to find out whoever this guy is,” I say, getting up from my chair and Leo follows.
But when I step into the hallway and look toward the front door, I find out this Frankie guy is in factnota guy, but a tall, gorgeous woman with bright red hair.
Jealousy surges to the surface as my jaw ticks with each passing second that her arms are around my mate.
“Down girl,” Leo chuckles.
“Shut up,” I mutter. Whoever this girl is, she needs to stop touching my man before I make her.
“Frankie,” Megan says her name in a motherly warm tone, making the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
“Who are you?” I ask, unable to keep the snippy tone out of my question. I’m not one to normally let another woman get to me, but after everything with the guys and the Heathers, I’ve grown a little testy.
“Little Bird,” Zed says, stepping back. “This is Frankie. One of my best friends.”
“Really?” I say, letting the question drag a bit. “Funny, because I haven’t heard you mention her once.”
“She’s been gone for years now. I didn’t think to bring her up,” he replies, looking a little guilty.
My eyes flick over to Frankie, and that’s when I realize I’ve seen her before. “Wait. You're the vampire guard I met when I went home to visit.”
