I raise my foot, and he slides the panties onto that leg before repeating the process on the other side. He pulls them up slowly, sliding them up under my dress, which has fallen back down around my legs. Once my panties are securely in place, Reese leans in and kisses my pussy through my clothes. The tiny amount of pressure on the sensitive little bud makes my breath hitch—but even more than that, it’s the sight of Reese on his knees for me.

He did it so naturally, as if it’s nothing at all, but it makes me feel more treasured and taken care of than any of the gifts or flowers Austin occasionally bought for me when we were together.

I shake off that thought, trying not to dwell on the way my heart trips in my chest.

It’s dangerous to keep losing myself in thoughts of things I can never have, but I can’t seem to stop it.

Unable to resist, I slide my fingers gently through Reese’s thick blond hair. He looks up at me, his hands resting on my hips, and the sight of his warm, happy smile makes a lump grow in my throat.

If he keeps looking at me like that, I’m afraid I won’t be able to keep my inner thoughts from breaking through in my expression, so I tug on his hair lightly, urging him to his feet.

He rises, pinning me against the wall again as he kisses me. Then he reaches down and tucks himself away, zipping his pants back up.

He lets out a sigh, his forehead resting against mine. “You know what? I think this just became my favorite restaurant in Denver.”

I can’t help but laugh at that, despite the mess of emotions clogging my chest.

“Mine too.”

Chapter36

Reese

“Stop dicking around, Reese!” Noah calls from near the bench, but from the look on his face, I can tell he’s enjoying it as much as I am.

I skate a few circles around him, stretching my hamstrings and thighs while a few spectators filter into the arena. The Dallas fans have been brutal to us, even during warmups, but I don’t care. We’ve been on a winning streak, and I plan to keep that streak going tonight. After this, we’ll be in Chicago, which means we’ll be gone from Denver for almost a week.

I glance up into the stands, where Margo is standing near the Aces’ bench, capturing footage for our social media. Noah looks at her every few minutes, and a sudden wave of jealousy hits me. It’s nice that he has Margo, that she works for the team and can travel with us for the majority of our games. Even when Sienna and I were together, she barely showed up to games. Home games, even.

Callie has been to every single home game. Several away games as well, when she can make it.

Fuck, I wish she were here tonight.

I wish she could cheer me on. I want to see her in my jersey, my name on her back, hear her cheers reaching me on the ice or when I’m on the bench.

It’s funny. Callie and I used to be able to go a few weeks without seeing each other, and everything would be okay. We’d fall back into our usual dynamic and routines as if no time had passed between us at all. But now, a week feels unbearable. I’m excited every day to go home because it means I’ll get to see her.

After our warmup, we troop back into the locker room, where Dunaway gives us his usual pep talk. Then we take the ice again, and just like I expected we would, we wipe the floor with Dallas.

It takes us until about halfway through the first period to really find our stride, and then we score our first goal. They come out scrambling in the second period, and it’s a fight to move the puck out of our zone and into their territory, but Grant does an amazing job of blocking shots. And in the third period, Theo and I manage to sneak one more past their goalie, bringing us up by two.

The game ends at 2-0, and the Dallas fans all groan loudly.

Everyone is energized and triumphant as we head through the tunnel afterward, wiping sweat off our foreheads. In the locker room, I start to tug off my gear, grabbing my phone from my bag at the same time.

CALLIE: What a shot omg!!

CALLIE: Ah! So close, come on, Reese, you’ve got this!!

CALLIE: GOAL. GOAL. GOAL.

CALLIE: That ref’s getting paid off, for sure.

CALLIE: Such a bullshit call.

CALLIE: Boo Dallas

CALLIE: YES GOAL WOOHOO
