“With your hand squeezing my ass, got my pu—”

His mouth captures mine. I use my tongue to tell him all that he’s doing to my body. I explore the heated oasis, and I want more.

“I can’t have women coming in and out of our home. I’m not asking for forever but a commitment.” The words are gruff and raw. The thought of forever rings in my head. “And before you think it, I don’t want or need your money. I’m just a regular man, living a regular life.”

There is nothing regular about Benjamin Abbott. Every inch of my body is burning with need. I sit on the bed, placing a leg on either side of his body. I’m nearly eye level with this thick manhood, and my mouth waters. I glance up.

“Oh, no you don’t,” he says. My arms are over my head, and my back is against the mattress. We’re eye to eye. “Tell me what you’re thinking.”

I cock an eye at him.

“Besides that. I can’t budge on this, Hunter.” I hear the vulnerability in his voice.

“What if it, we, don’t work?”

“There’s always a chance, but that’s where communication comes in. We talk about it, and if we decide to go our separate ways, then….” He shrugs. “But Jo, there something special here. What if this is our shot?”

“Ben, I’m not the best at picking men. And I believe you’re a good one, but what if it’s something in me that I attract no good as men?” The truth in my statement washes over me, and I’m embarrassed. It’s like I’m drunk on him. Like he’s a wicked, tasty, truth serum.

“I don’t believe that. You’re too forgiving, and you always see the best in people.”

“You don’t know that.” I look away.

“Hunter Josephine Preston, I’ve served you at S&J for a year. The last guy was an opportunist with a wandering eye. I never understood what you saw in that guy,” he says more to himself than me. “And the loser before him, he was….” He shook his head apparently at a loss for words.

“He was an ass.”

Ben kissed me, gentle and tender. “They didn’t deserve you.”

“And you do?”

His eyes dart off before coming back to mine. “Jo, I hope so. I’m not perfect, but you can trust me.”

Lewis’ dick pic comes to mind, and I glance away. Men always declare themselves trustworthy when they want something. “So if you’re this amazing guy, why are you single?”

“I didn’t say amazing. But I’ve been adjusting to my new life.” Ben releases my hands and falls back on the mattress beside me. I turn my head trying to see his face in the dark. “Zoe is my niece.”

“But she looks like your twin.”

“Technically, we have the same DNA her mother was my twin sister.”

“Was? And where is she, if you don’t mind me asking?”

“She died, and she asked me to raise Zoe as my own.” He’s staring at the ceiling.

“How’s it going?” Ben’s lips are on mine in a flash. “What did I say?”

“It’s what you didn’t say. I get all types of responses. But rarely is it a concern for us. We are great. She’s adjusting, and I think me moving to Austin and raising her here helps.”

“How long has it been?”

“Almost two years.”

And something he said came to mind. “And you’ve never brought a woman home?”

“No.” Our eyes met again, and I feel his finger lace through mine.

“Why me?” The words flutter out. I’m a confident woman, my man issues aside, but this seems like a massive step for anyone.
