Servants appeared with loaded trays, surprising me to learn that it was dinner time already, and I mused,Funny, how time flies by with Lilith at my side. The last three hundred odd years danced in front of my eyes, how had I stood those without her company?
"Are you hungry?" I asked her.
In response her stomach grumbled, making me smile.
I donned my discarded breeches and made my way to the table, aware of Lilith's eye's on me. I reclined by the table in my favorite chair, watching her rise from our bed.
Hell's fury, the female was delectable. Even draped in nothing but an oversized sheet, she took my breath away and accelerated the beat of my newly awakened heart.
She was a vision to behold. Her fiery red hair was a mess of curls surrounding her like a mantle, reaching down to her swaying hips. Her skin was a little pale, and a guilt-ridden arrow pierced my heart at the thought that I might have drained too much of her blood. I would need to give her time to recover. That, and plenty of nourishment.
In response, my venom gathered in my mouth, ready to seal wounds I desired to inflict. The sight of her exposed, long, elegant neck titillated me. I didn't think she had done it on purpose, but by the pits of hell, her bare shoulder and neck were a temptation. It took all my willpower to remain in my chair and not tackle her on her way to the table.
A long, elegant arm emerged from underneath the sheet as she lifted the first lid and squealed in delight. I leaned around her form to find the source of her happiness and couldn't help but flare my nostrils at the pile of what looked like white worms to me, covered in some kind of red sauce. The sauce did remind me of her blood, but… I stopped that train of thought. She needed to eat, and if this food made her happy, I would give it a try.
"What is this?" I asked curiously.
"It's called spaghetti. You twirl it around your fork like this." She took a fork and demonstrated how to roll thewormsonto it. Her other hand shot out and she placed it palm up underneath the loaded forkful and brought it to my lips. "Try."
Only the gleam in her eyes made me open my mouth, but on the inside I shuddered. She must have caught my trepidation because she laughed. "You never had spaghetti before?"
I chewed on the soft substance and admitted it didn't taste half bad. Good even.
"No," I managed before swallowing and watching her take a daintier bite. "Tell me if I'm incorrect, but aren't we supposed to use those plates?" I pointed at several plates of varying sizes stacked in front of our chairs.
Lilith remained standing, and the sparkle in her eyes went straight to my loins. "This is a lot more fun. Open."
Before I could say anything else, she deposited another bite in my mouth, and I must confess, this one tasted even better.
Lilith opened another golden dome and steam rose from a bowl filled to the brim with what appeared like more very skinny, small, even whiterworms, with some kind of meat and a brownish sauce on top.
"Duck," Lilith exclaimed, and speared a piece of meat, thankfully without the worms—what was it with humans and worms?
Obediently, I opened my mouth and chewed on the meat, which wasn't bad either. But when she filled her fork with the white worms, I recoiled. I had to draw a line somewhere.
"What is it?" she asked and redirected the bite into her mouth.
"That looks like worms," I said, hearing the apprehension in my voice.
I wasn't prepared for her reaction. Her eyes went wide, her hand shot forward as she caught little white worms coming out of her mouth, and an undefined sound broke from her that ended in laughter.
"You think these are worms?" she finally asked when she stopped laughing.
Indignantly I nodded. "What else would it be?"
"What kind of food do you guys eat on theAsphodel?" she asked instead.
"Civilized food." I moved my chin forward.
"Well, why don't you order somecivilizedfood tomorrow, so I can see the difference?" Her eyes danced with merriment. "This, however, is rice, not worms. You should try it, it's delicious, especially in this sauce."
I waved her off and distracted her by asking, "What's under that lid?"
That one looked more appealing, and I looked at her questioningly.
"Cheesecake with strawberry sauce on top. It's a dessert." She explained.
"I like dessert. Feed me, female." I demanded.
