Lilith stirred on the bed, and I stepped back into the shadows, not prepared for her to see me yet and ask questions.

I knew I should have left as well, but the devil help me, I already couldn't bear being away from her.

SlowlyIopenedmyeyes, to take in the dark chamber I found myself in. My body hurt as if I had worked out too strenuously the day before. Every muscle felt stiff and sore. And with that realization, full recollection of where I was, why and what had happened, brought me back to the present.

With a start and a gasp, I sat up.

The chamber was done in dark colors, giving the impression of being inside an old castle, or no, a fief. The walls were bare and seemed to have been built from rock. Here, too, old -fashioned torches burned, without putting out heat or smoke. Clearly they were some sort of high-tech alien gadget simply designed to look like torches.

I remembered being in Seth's arms and losing consciousness.

Seth!

Was he here?

It didn't feel as if I was alone in the room, and it took me a moment before I made out a shadowy figure leaning against one of the many pillars.

"Seth?" My voice was more of a quiet squawk, so I cleared my throat and tried again. "Seth?"

"I'm here."

He stepped away from the pillar and my breath caught. Emotions, so many of them, assaulted me that I felt dizzy and leaned back on the bed.

"Lilith? Are you alright?" He rushed to my side.

Up close, he was even more intimidating than when I first saw him or even when I watched him fight his brother so ferociously.

"I…" I stared at his red glowing eyes, the same eyes I had seen in my dreams so many times, for as long as I could remember, and my hand moved up and forward. It was an automatic gesture, not planned, not even born of my own free will.

This man, this alien, scared the living shit out of me and yet I felt compelled to touch him, to assure myself he was there.

The moment my palm made contact with his rough cheek, I closed my eyes and was assaulted by so many images, I gasped. So many men. All of them Seth and yet not him. Each one looked different, had different skin colors, different faces, and yet all of them were him. All of them had pointy ears, red glowing eyes and… fangs.

I heard him gasp just as I did and opened my eyes. He stared at me in disbelief just like I stared at him.

"Lilith."

His hand reached out and touched my face the same way I was touching his. The contact sent an electric jolt through me, my skin tingled in an unfamiliar way, one I had yearned for all my life.

"Who are you?" I managed, pulling my hand back, even though it took a conscious effort to do so.

He let go of my cheek as well and stepped back.

"I wanted to ask you the same question," he said with a slight trace of humor.

I sat back up, scooted on the bed so I sat on the edge instead of the middle of it.

"How do you feel?" Seth asked. "Would you like something to drink? Eat?"

My tongue moved over my dry lips at the mention of a drink. "Something to drink would be nice."

Slightly confused by our polite civility, I watched him walk toward a cube-like table, seemingly made of rock, carved, but too much in the shadows to make out what the carvings were. Since I had already seen some of them, all of them frightening as hell, I didn't want to explore them any further right now.

He lifted a golden pitcher, and I listened to the telltale sound of liquid sloshing into a cup. Seconds later he held it out to me, and I stared at the red contents. For a moment I feared it to be blood, and my eyes shot up to Seth.

He smirked, "It's not poisoned."

It was more his smirk than his words that made me tilt the cup to my lips and drink. It was heavy like wine, but thankfully, not blood. It was thicker than water, sweet, but not overwhelmingly so. I wanted to ask what it was but was afraid of the answer.
