The bathroom was… “Okay, I see why you wanted to bring me in here that night.” It continued the color scheme, but was structured in a way that most bathrooms weren’t. A giant tiled shower that was just… open. Tiled, with what looked like a hundred shower heads pointing in every direction. It was like the bathroom in the gym times a hundred. “How much work did you guys have done on this place before you moved here?”

“A fair amount.”

I looped my arms around his neck. “You’re going to leave me alone in the shower again, aren’t you?”

“Mhmm, but don’t worry, baby girl. I plan on having you in here. And by having, I mean pinning you against the tile and seeing how many times I can make your voice echo.”

“You can’t say that and then take me somewhere we’re not allowed to have sex.”

“When did I say that?”

He slipped out of the bathroom with a wink and left me staring after him.

Maybe I would learn to like surprises after all.

CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE

________

SLOANE

Jace had me put on a blindfold. A literal, actual blindfold. So I couldn’t see where he was taking me. My legs bounced the whole way until he reached over and squeezed my thigh. Then they were shaking for a whole different reason, with his fingers so close to my pussy.

But his hand on my skin calmed me.

“You reallydon’tlike surprises, do you?”

“I mean…” I swallowed. “It’s not like I think you’re going to take me anywhere I don’t like. It just makes me nervous.”

The car slowed and stopped. “We’re here, so you can see soon. Hang on.”

Helping me out of the car, he placed me where he wanted me and stood behind me. “Ready?”

“Yes, please.”

I blinked against the light and stared up at the building in front of me. Somewhere I hadn’t been since I was a kid, butloved.

Slate City Aquarium.

My mouth dropped open in a gasp. “How did you know?”

Jace wrapped his arms around me and purred. “When we were helping pack your things, there was a picture stuck to your bedroom mirror. Little Sloane in front of all those jellyfish. A little digging told me it was here.”

I knew the picture he was talking about. Taken on a day when I’d been sad because I hadn’t gotten the part I wanted in my dance school’s show, and grandma took me there to cheer me up. I’d been back since, but it had still been years.

“Is this okay?”

“More than okay,” I whispered. “I love this place. Haven’t been in forever. But…”

“But?”

I laughed. “There’s no way we can have sex here.”

His purr grew stronger. “You sure about that?”

“Of course I’m sure. I—”

WhileIhadn’t been here, I still went past it regularly. There were always people around, kids with field trips and families on days off. But the surrounding sidewalk was completely empty, and the aquarium itself almost looked closed.
