“Hollie, what is the matter with you?”

I swallowed the words I was dying to yell out, but I knew I needed to talk to my sister Sarah before I said anything to Lucas.

“I think it’s simply because you’re getting to know me better and better. I’m sure that happens with all couples.”

He nodded. “Probably. I am learning to read you more.”

“You’re right, though, I was thinking about how easy it would be to put a little spell on David and Kelley, but I’m not going to.”

He raised a single brow. “You’re not?”

I slowly shook my head. “I’m not, I promise you. I’m going to let it play out the old-fashioned way.”

Lucas smiled. “Good, I’m glad. If it’s meant to be then it will happen.”

“But,” I said as I held up a finger again, “that doesn’t mean I can’t give a little nudge here and there…the old-fashioned way.”

Drawing in a deep breath, Lucas sighed heavily and rubbed at the back of his neck. “Why do I feel nervous about that statement?”

With a wide grin, I replied, “There’s absolutely nothing to be nervous about. Nothing at all!”

There was a light knock on the door and Lucas reached behind him to open it. Kelley stood in the doorway looking worried. “I saw ya walk back here; I hope I’m not interrupting.”

“Not at all!” I replied.

“Do ya mind if I speak to ya, Hollie?” Kelley asked. My eyes instantly went to where she was rubbing her hands together nervously.

“Is everything okay?” I asked.

“To just Hollie?” Lucas asked at the same time.

Turning to look at him, I asked, “Why did you ask it like that? Why wouldn’t Kelley want to talk to me?”

“I don’t know, I guess I was surprised is all.”

“Why?” Kelley and I asked in unison.

Throwing up his hands, Lucas shook his head and turned to leave. “I will never understand women.”

And with that, he walked out of the office, shutting the door behind him.

Focusing back on Kelley, I asked, “What’s up?”

She chewed on her bottom lip before she blurted out, “I think I’m attracted to David.”

Nearly jumping with pure happiness, I reached for her hands. I had forgotten what life was like before the use of magick. The feeling you got when something happened the good old-fashioned way. Then again, maybe it was a different kind of magic. Smiling, I replied, “That’s wonderful!”

Looking confused, she asked, “It is?”

“Yes! I think he’s attracted to you too. I mean, he keeps looking at you.”

She huffed. “That doesn’t mean anything. He’s a man, they look.”

“That may be, but he waslookingat you.”

“Does that mean something different in America?”

I laughed. “He likes you, I know he does. Call it intuition.”
