“We’re not Amaroki.” Laughter rang in his words. “We’re demons.” He stiffened, his nostrils flaring. He dug his claws into her shoulders as the sparkle in his eyes went flat. “The devil cat is here.”

Her heart took off at a gallop. “Play nice.” When he gave her a dark look, she added. “Please.”

He released her and went to the mouth of the cave. She hurried to his side. A familiar feline was bounding up the mountainside, hissing when she cut her paw on a sharp crystal.

“Damn,” he grumbled, his eyes flaring. “Send her away.”

She shook her head. “I’m not doing that.”

“I won’t have her watching while I take your virginity.”

She snorted at that. This wolf was certainly sure of himself. “You’re not taking anything until I’m ready.”

She wasn’t prepared for what happened next. Cadmus swept her into his arms, his lips crashing down on hers. She tried to fight him at first, but her resolve melted within the heat of his hard body. Her lips parted, welcoming his tongue’s invasion. He tasted like coppery brine and something so purely masculine that drove her to the brink of madness. Her hands moved as if possessed, raking down his back with fevered urgency. Damn her foolish body for responding so eagerly.

“Believe me, Bennu.” He finally pulled back, panting against her mouth. “I know how to make you ready.”

She clung to him, too breathless to speak. It took her a long moment to regain her senses. “Phoenix,” she finally answered.

His smile was wicked, the reincarnation of the prince of temptation. “Phoenix, don’t you understand that I want to protect you?”

She looked down between them, at that hard torpedo poking out from Cadmus’s borrowed underwear and pressing against her stomach. “That’s not all you want.”

He caressed her scalp before threading his fingers through her wet hair, fisting the strands. “What I want is to make you squirm and beg beneath me while I fuck your tight, wet pussy,” he whispered in her ear. “Don’t worry, I won’t be rough with you the first time, even though that’s what you like.”

“Oh.” It took her a moment to regain her senses. At some point, she’d wrapped her arms around him, clinging to his shoulders as if she feared she’d fall over. She contemplated his words. She could’ve easily accepted his invitation, letting him drag her back into the cave while making good on his words, Tigress and the rest of hell be damned. That’s what she wanted to do, but what she needed to do was get away from this tempting demon and clear her head. She turned up her chin, letting a lie slip off her tongue. “Maybe my tastes have changed.”

“Liar.” He tightened his hold on her hair, his too confident grin chipping away at the last of her self-control. “You can’t hide your lust from me.”

A feline roar sounded behind them. She spun in her mate’s arms, magic jumping into her palms like surges of electricity. Tigress was glaring at them, her tail swishing back and forth as she sat on the cave’s ledge like an alley cat sitting on top of a brick wall. The rage reflecting in her eyes set Phoenix’s teeth on edge.

She let out a low wail that sounded like a cat in heat, before rising onto just her hind legs. “Thanks for waiting.”

Cadmus pulled her protectively against his chest. “You’re not welcome here.”

The feline stalked past them, tickling Phoenix’s forearm with the tip of her tail. “Too bad.”

Phoenix sucked in a hiss when blood trailed from the demon cat’s paw, smearing all over the pale floor. “Are you okay?”

The feline tossed an apathetic look behind her. “What do you think?”

Tension radiated off Cadmus’s flushed skin in waves. “Don’t expect us to apologize to a thief.”

She went to the pool, sniffing the water. “Would you rather I’d left the crystal for the jorogumo or lechers to give to their master?”

Cadmus stalked after her. “Sure, that’s why you took it. The claw, too.”

“I don’t have to explain myself to you!” She spun around with a hiss and sat up on her back haunches, the fur on her neck standing on end. “I don’t give a troll’s ass what you think!”

“Stop this!” Phoenix jumped between them, holding out her hands. “We have bigger problems right now.”

Tigress sat back and licked her paws with a long, flat tongue. “Yeah, like that lecher who was following me.”

Cadmus’s silvery skin flushed red, rage swirling in his eyes. “They followed you, and you led them here?”

“Only the smaller one followed.” She stopped licking her paws long enough to shrug. “I lost the other two.”

“Damon.” Phoenix gasped, clutching Cadmus’s arm. “Maybe we can take him.”
