“Are all of the others planning to do the same thing?” I ask curiously.
Demelza nods, “Yes, we’re all going to meet there and stay tonight. We’ll head back once you let us know that it’s safe to do so. Have you heard from Malory?”
Malachi nods, answering for us both as he replies, “Yeah, she’s fine. She’s enjoying the break without having to look over her shoulder and said she didn’t realise what a massive difference it would make to be clear of the threat from our father and actually be safe. I think she’s planning to stay until the end of the week.”
Demelza smiles with affection, “Good, she deserves some proper time to relax, and I’m glad that she’s finally getting it.”
“Me too,” I reply as I take a long sip of coffee. I can just tell that it’s going to be a long day.
“Great, well, in that case, we will leave you to it,” Gerald says as he stands up and takes his used dishes into the kitchen half of the room, putting them in the sink and quickly rinsing them. “If you need anything at all, call us, and we’ll be there. The other's skills may be a bit rusty, but mine aren’t, and neither are your grandmothers. We’re perfectly capable of providing backup should you need it.”
“Oh, we definitely know that man, you kick ass,” Ace exclaims, clearly thinking of the time that we walked back into the house only to find Gerald surrounded by injured and dead intruders.
Gerald grins, “Thanks.”
“We should be fine, but I promise we will call if we need help,” Rome replies.
“Good,” Deme replies. And then adds, “I may be in retirement now that you kids are here, and I’m looking forward to an easier life helping to run and sort out this town, but I’m more than happy to come out of retirement to aid my granddaughter and her family.”
Pride swells unexpectedly through me at her acknowledgment that we are Jynx’s family, and I can see that the guys are having the same reaction as I am, all sitting straighter and more proudly in their seats.
Jynx gets up and hugs her grandparents tightly, promising to keep them up to date with everything that she can and that she will let them know as soon as we’re back and that so long as there aren’t any serious injuries, we’ll head up to them as soon as we can so that we can fill them in.
Considering that we’re going up early in the morning, since we’re reasonably confident that’s when they arrive, just from the time that the buyer picks up, we should be able to fill them in on the same day with no problem, so long as nothing goes wrong and I really hope nothing goes wrong.
I love being around my grandparents, and talking to Malory is amazing, but I miss our home, and I miss my bed. Hell, I miss jobs with the Ravens, jobs that have absolutely nothing to do with us and aren’t a twisted mess of feelings too.
In other words, and put quite simply, I want to go home and I’m not the only one. Ace is desperately missing his animals now.
Having said goodbye to her grandparents, Jynx walks back into the room, heading straight for the coffee pot and filling up her mug again; turning back around, she grins as she says, “Let’s do this. I’ve missed Harley and the guys, and this feels a bit more like getting back to normal, which I’m desperately wanting to do.”
“Me too,” Rip agrees, “having the last couple of days just to chill out has been great, and I love getting to know my grandparents again, but it’s all quite heavy emotionally, and I think I’d much rather be fighting with my life in danger than have to deal with much more emotional shit.”
Ace nods, clearly in agreement, as he says, “Tell me about it. I want a job where there aren’t any emotions on our part involved, you know? Go in, do the job, come home, and have dinner.”
Jynx smiles, “I think you guys are forgetting that although the personal stuff has been pretty intense recently, we’re still going to get called in on personal stuff, like with what happened with Micha and Waverly, we’ll get called on personal stuff to do with D and Alaric too because they trust us.”
“True, but it won’t be one thing after another, and we won’t all find out that our dead grandparents are actually alive, and so is our sister,” I point out.
“Good point,” Jynx chuckles.
“I love it when we get called to help our people; I’d just rather no one else who we thought was dead pops up out of the woodwork again,” Rome replies.
“On that, I can definitely agree,” Jynx replies, “No butlers turning out to be grandfathers either.”
“The Conspiracy team has just arrived,” Ace suddenly says, changing the subject, “Dax just texted me that they’ve come over the town border.”
“Let’s get this cleared up then,” I suggest since there are still breakfast things everywhere.
We make short work of tidying everything away, and just as we’ve finished, we can hear the sounds of a vehicle coming up the driveway. Jynx immediately heads out of the door, the rest of us following quickly, as we always do and we always will.
“Hey guys,” Rome greets them all.
Nash smiles, “It feels like it’s been far too long since we’ve seen each other.”
“Tell me about it,” Jynx replies, “How’re the rest of the Ravens?”
“They’re good, everyone’s on jobs, but Rufus’s team of five is pretty much just on surveillance, so they can be called here reasonably quickly if we need them. The tech team has them on a job about thirty minutes away.” Ridge replies.
