Her face is flushed, her eyes wide. “I can’t believe you just did that.”

I smirk.

“Jacob.” Camden Church stops at our table. “Hello, Melody.”

“Camden,” she replies. “Excited to face off against your brother?”

He smiles. “Rhodes mentioned that?”

I smirk. I mean, I mentioned it in passing. Didn’t think she’d remember, much less bring it up.

“It’s our form of pillow talk.” She rests her chin on her knuckles and smiles sweetly at him.

I roll my eyes. “Okay, okay. What’s up, Church?”

“We’re heading over in ten.” He moves off without another word.

I look to Melody.

“I’ll be fine,” she says. “Kristy got me a pass. It’ll be like the good old days.”

The one game she worked. I snort a laugh and nod at her, rising from my seat and kissing her fast before following our goalie, Haverhill, out the door.

Knox, Miles, Steele, and Greyson are in the front part of the restaurant. At the bar. They’re not eating—or drinking, for that matter.

“Hey,” I greet them. “Haverhill, you know my friends?”

“Pleasure, guys.” He eyes Miles. “Good goaltending. Sorry your season ended sooner than it should’ve.”

They shake hands, and I grin.

“You here to support Rhodes?” he asks. “Must be nice—my high school didn’t produce shit for hockey players. That’s why I skipped college and played in the AHL.”

“We’re here on a covert mission,” Knox says.

“Which is not covert if you tell everyone,” Steele adds under his breath.

Knox glares at him. “I haven’t told everyone.”

“The flight attendant,” Greyson says.

“The cab driver.” Steele.

“The bartender,” Miles adds.

I hide my smile.

Haverhill’s gaze bounces between us. “I’ll give you time to chat about this covert mission in private, then.”

He ambles for the door, and I elbow Knox.

“Ow,” Knox complains, rubbing his arm. “What was that for?”

“Having a big mouth.”

He seems in better spirits, though.

“You’ve got a game to win,” Greyson says. “Let us keep track of Melody.”
