“I haven’t been to the museum in a while. That might be interesting.”

He nodded his agreement. “Let finish breakfast, then get ready.”

The museum turned out to be good time. They only toured the Ancient Greece, Rome and Byzantine Empire exhibit, but they spent a few hours there.

Maverick carried Sawyer against his chest in the baby sling, and she noticed more than one mom chaperoning a group of school kids swoon at the sight of the silver fox and infant son.

Olivia wasn’t jealous.

Not at all.

Thatwasn’twhy she made sure to slip her hand into his with a smile or lean her head against him when he’d put his arm around her shoulder as they studied a piece.

The three of them were greeted warmly when they walked into Flannigan’s mid-afternoon for lunch. All the waitresses fawned over their happy boy as he smiled brightly from his stroller, and even Dan came around the bar and asked if he could hold him.

Maverick cocked his head and said, “Sure, man. I never would have pegged you for the kid type.”

“Are you kidding? I’m aching to have ‘em. I just need to find the right woman. But I’m not settling, so… here I am.”

“You’ll find her,” Olivia proclaimed with authority.

Maverick put his hand on hers and smiled. “You just have to be patient.”

When he looked at her like that, it made it hard to breathe.

This is ending in six weeks. Knock that shit off.

She waited until Dan walked away with Sawyer to subtly pull her hand away. Smiling sweetly, she asked, “Did you get a hold of your attorney today?”

He jerked his head back with a frown. “You told me there wasn’t a rush.”

“Oh, there’s not, I was just wondering.”

And trying to keep some perspective.

A noticeable chill hovered between them, and she instantly regretted bringing it up.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to kill the good vibe between us."

“It’s fine,” he replied dismissively without looking at her.

“I don’t feel like it is.” Olivia grabbed his hand, refusing to let go or look away until he acknowledged her. When he did, she stared into his eyes while she squeezed his hand. “I really am sorry. It was a completely inappropriate time to bring that up. Please forgive me.”

He gave her a weak smile but leaned over and kissed her cheek. “Apology accepted.”

Her mom ears perked up at the sound of her son’s cry from across the bar. Maverick heard it, too, and turned around to locate where it was coming from.

Dan transferred Sawyer to a shoulder hold and started to pat his back. She was impressed with the bartender’s paternal instincts.

The fix was only temporary, however, because a few minutes later Sawyer started crying again, and Dan made a beeline back to their table and transferred the crying infant into her waiting arms, where he immediately quieted.

“He’s getting tired,” she offered apologetically when she noticed Dan seemed to take the baby’s crying in his arms personally.

Maverick appeared to pick up on that, too, because he offered, “And he might need to be changed.”
