She reasoned she could always claim ignorance if she got caught. Sleep snuggling—kind of like sleep walking, only different. But so far he’d just gently pushed her away when he woke up.

“He’s been a patient gentleman,” Olivia said with a polite smile as stared at her feet hanging from the exam table. She really needed a pedicure.

“What are you guys doing tonight for New Year’s?”

“We don’t have any plans. His parents left yesterday, so I think we’re staying in and just having a relaxing night. What about you and Chad?”

“You know he won’t go out on New Year’s Eve. Sometimes being married to a cop can be a real killjoy. I took the on-call shift. Let someone who’ll celebrate it right have a chance to go out.”

That made Olivia giggle.

Rose stood from her rolling stool. “We’re done. Go ahead and get dressed—you know the drill. Let’s have lunch on Saturday? Noon at Flannigan’s? Celebrate New Year’s a day late.”

“Yeah, I’d love to.”

“Great! I’ll see you then. I want to hear all about your reunion sex.”

“Ohmygod!”

“As your best friend, not as your doctor.”

“Duh.”

She was going to have to read some erotica to get ideas for the lie she was going to have to tell.

Of course, she had better stop by her house and pick up her battery-operated boyfriend if she was going to do that.

And she really needed to commence tactics to get him to divorce her.

He waited in Olivia’s office with Sawyer while Olivia had her four-week checkup.

He heard the rapid clicking of heels coming down the hall and knew it was Rose before she even popped her head in the doorway.

“How’s my godson? I heard he got his shots today.”

They’d gone to Sawyer’s appointment before coming here for hers.

“He did. He’s not feeling that great.”

She pulled the baby from his car seat and bounced him in her arms.

“Aw, poor little guy. Did that mean pediatrician poke you with a needle?”

“I don’t know who was more upset, me or him.”

“It doesn’t get easier. Chad was just as traumatized with our fourth as he was our first.”

“I’m not sure we’re even going to have a second, let alone a fourth.”

Rose smiled smugly. “Well, she’s been given the all-clear, in case you want to start practicing.”

“Oh, uh, that’s great!”

On one hand, it really was great news, and his dick might have moved at the thought of the new possibilities. On the other, now he couldn’t blame her not wanting him on any physical limitations.
