“Hey!” the older Mitchell boy called enthusiastically. “Dad had to run some errands, so he asked me to stay with Sawyer until you got here.”
“Everything go okay?”
“Oh yeah. Me and my little bro have just been hanging out, and he’s been telling me all kinds of stories.” Nick tickled Sawyer’s belly, asking, “Right little dude?” as the baby squealed and kicked in response.
Her son’s happiness made her smile as she started picking up the mess of toys.
“Oh, just leave those. I’ll take care of them,” Nick said. “Dad told me to tell you to call him if you want him to pick up Sawyer tomorrow, and to make sure you take the dinner he put aside for you in the fridge.”
She appreciated Mav’s thoughtfulness, still she said, “Aw he shouldn’t have,” as she picked up Sawyer from the quilt.
Nick stood and handed her the diaper bag. “You know dad.”
When they reached the kitchen Nick opened the fridge and pulled out the plastic container with the dinner.
“He really loves you, you know,” he said as he handed it to her.
“Why do you say that?”
He motioned to the container of food in her hand. “He takes care of the people he loves.”
“He wants to make sure Sawyer is getting the proper nutrition.”
“He worries aboutyou. Because he loves you.”
Could that really be true? Had she been so blind that she’d missed it?

Maverick
He sat across from his attorney and looked at the million-dollar view from the man’s office. Their divorce negotiation with Olivia and her lawyer was in less than half an hour, and they were hammering out the details before the meeting.
If everything went according to plan today, the only thing left to do would be to appear before a judge and ask him to grant them their divorce.
“Her two million dollars is non-negotiable, unless she wants more—then give it to her. Spousal maintenance and child support is also not up for debate—unless again, if she asks for more, then she can have it.”
“So, you want to fight about making hertakeyour money?”
“Yes.”
“And you think that’s going to be a sticking point?”
“Yes.”
“What about custody?”
“I think we’re on the same page when it comes to that. I’ll provide Sawyer’s care while she’s at work, and he’ll stay with me two nights a week, more if she needs it. She’ll have him on her days off.”
“What about holidays? And when he starts school?”
“He’ll go to the school in my district, and holidays… I’d prefer we spend them together.”
Larry shook his head. “Trust me, we need to spell out what will happen when either, or both of you, gets remarried.”
Maverick couldn’t help snapping, “Then I guess she brings her new husband along if he feels he needs to be included.”
With a gentler tone, his lawyer asked, “And what about you, when you get involved with someone new?”
