“What did you order?”
“Chinese, Thai, pizza, little bit of everything,” he says, and starts opening the bags.
“Oh! Pizza!” I exclaim. I’m craving junk food. I open the pizza box and there it is, cheesy tomato and pepperoni, staring right at me. Yum.
“Watch out, it’s hot,” Orion warns.
“The hotter the better.” I take a slice, gobble it up in one go, and take another. My mouth’s dripping with grease but I don’t care.
He passes me a napkin, smirking. “Eat properly. You’re not a child.”
I take it and as I wipe my mouth, I become aware of something happening. I glare at him and feel my mouth burning, more intensely as the seconds pass. My ears begin to grow hot and my eyes burn, most likely turning scarlet.
Orion starts full-on laughing. “I told you it was hot. You should start listening to me.”
“I can take it,” I sniffle. My nose is running now but I bite into another slice anyway, this one smaller.
“Don’t.” He takes the slice from my hand. “You’re not proving anything to me.”
“Orion, give it to me!”
“Only if you’re sure.”
“I am. I want it hot.”
He watches me wiping my nose with the napkin and shakes his head. “Here. Enjoy it.” He hands back the hottest slice of pizza I’ve ever had in my life and picks up a box of noodles. “Maybe these’ll do you good. Finish your mouthful and I’ll let you have some.”
I chew and swallow my pizza, wiping my tears afterward. Not waiting for another moment to pass, I open my mouth and wait for Orion. He picks up some noodles with the chopsticks and as he lifts them to my mouth, he leans in and kisses me, flicking his tongue against mine.
“Let me take away that hotness you have,” he chuckles.
“Your kiss is soothing it… Please, more.”
He pulls back instead and feeds the noodles straight into my mouth. I hope they’ll alleviate the sting of the pepperoni. “Nobody made you eat the pizza, Maisy. It’s your own fault. Open wide now, I got more noodles for you.”
I finish the next mouthful and open for more as he continues to feed me. Yes, this really is what I need.
He pushes one of the boxes in front of me, together with the chopsticks. “Here, feed yourself,” he grins.
“No need to be so stingy,” I chuckle, and grab my box of noodles.
Logans walks in and sits opposite us. His eyes land on the pizza box and he reaches for it. “Where’s the rest of my pizza? Who ate it?”
I haven’t seen Logan hangry before.
“Maisy.” Orion points at me with his chopsticks. Traitor. “She’s responsible.”
“If it makes you feel any better, I wish I hadn’t eaten it,” I admit. “My mouth’s on fire.”
Logan curses me sweetly. “You deserve every little tear and sting, sweetheart,” he says, and takes a slice of hot pepperoni.
“How’s Kai?” Orion asks.
“He’ll be fine. He’s hurting because of Maisy mostly. What he did. Or nearly did to you.” Logan regards me.
“But nothing happened, I’m fine,” I protest.
“Yeah, it doesn’t work like that. Especially with him.”
