MAISY
Orion’s eyes are filled with concern. “Maisy, I hope you understand the situation I put you in. You’ll have to meet the Cartes and for that, you got to be ready. I don’t want anything happening unplanned.”
I nod, and chuckle. “You’re gonna have to buy me more clothes. And panties. I have no more of those, since you guys keep ripping them apart.”
“I’ll tell–”
“Please, not Leila!” I’ll die before I wear panties like those again.
He smirks. “I was gonna say Lisa. I asked her already to get you some.”
“And shoes,” I say.
“And shoes.”
“And dresses.”
“And dresses.”
“And coats.”
“Whatever you need, darling.” He kisses my forehead and I smile, wrapping my arms around his buff body.
I should be feeling guilty for having something else on my mind, but I’m not going to think about that right now.
“What do you need to remove the bullet?” he asks Logan.
“Nothing. It’s gone right though. I just need to patch him up and give him some antibiotics. Probably stitch a few of the cuts, too.”
“I’ll get your kit.” Orion places another kiss on my head and leaves me be.
I lie on the sofa next to Kai and hook my arm around his waist. He’s almost unconscious but he clutches me immediately, and takes my hand to his lips.
I’m scared for him. He got attacked. Can he even go home now that he’s killed so many of his own people? “Is he going to be okay?” I ask.
“Yes. Come here, let him rest.” Logan’s patting a place on the floor, next to the sofa.
I go to him and sit in his lap, nestling snugly in his arms. I want to be held. To be certain that I’m fine.
“We got to get you more clothes, you’re freezing.” Logan rubs my arms to warm me up and I nuzzle my face in his neck.
“Just hold me, please.”
I stay like that for a while, enjoying Logan’s scent. I want all of this to be over, and Kai to be fine, but it’s not going to happen. The Cartes know about me. That’s all I’m thinking about, and Logan knows it. He understands me so he just holds me in silence, stroking my head.
When Orion shows up with Logan’s kit, he takes over from Logan, reaching a hand out to me. “Come on, Maisy, let’s go.”
I don’t ask questions, just allow him to pull me from the room.
“Are you okay?” he asks.
“I am.”
“Are you hungry?”
I nod and as we enter the kitchen, I spot five takeout bags splayed across the table. “You already ordered?”
“I got Logan and Kai to feed, and they don’t eat like you.”
