I never get this with Orion. He’s usually mad at me for something. Even now, he should be upset with me, but he’s not. He puts panties and a cami top on me while I sniffle and watch him.
“There, your favorite outfit.” He smiles sadly and strokes my face. “Why did you leave, Maisy?”
“We were going to a studio, a place that potentially could have my video recording,” I tell him. “Kai thought if I went there they’d give it to me without hassle, and all this would be over.” I wipe away the tears that are spilling over my lashes. “Also, he wanted to take me for a ride on his bike. I haven’t been out, Orion.”
“I want you to go out for a ride too, with Kai and Logan and me, but we can’t do that right now.”
He’s right. They’re looking after me, and they know best.
“Lie down next to me, please.”
CHAPTER 10
ORION
It had to be done. I told the Cartes about Maisy, the wanted girl who was at the Delgados’ club. She has too much information on Milan to let her go just like that. We had to get her, and I didn’t have time to plan anything else considering I saw Kai’s text when I did. At least he told me he’s taking her. Getting there in the nick of time was pure luck.
She lies next to me, her small arms wrapped around my body and holding me close. My cock’s twitching but right now she needs me protecting her, not fucking her.
Turmoil seems to be raging inside her. Her shoulders still shudder from time to time, and every now and again she starts crying, then reaffirms her grip on me, and I retaliate with a stronger hold on her.
When I’m certain she’s fallen asleep in my arms, I pull out my cell and text Kai. That motherfucker nearly got her gangbanged! He’s an idiot–didn’t he know he wouldn’t be able to live with himself if that happened?
WTF?! I text him, and wait. This is always unnerving because no matter how much we plan, there’ll still be one moron who wants to pretend to be boss, then messes things up.
My cell rings and I try to peel myself off Maisy so I can get up.
“No, no, stay,” she moans.
“I’ll be back, darling. I got to take this call.”
I manage to get off the bed and leave her room to take the call. “You better have a damn good explanation for what happened!” I snarl.
“Is she okay?”
“No thanks to you!”
Kai sighs, sounding pained. “Thank God!”
“What the fuck made you take her from my home, you asshole? We talked about this before–why do I have to keep repeating myself over and over?!”
“You can talk,” Kai mutters with a sharp intake of breath. “The bruise on her face? You’re still into that shit?”
“THAT was an accident! You fucker, I can’t believe you went there!” As much as he’s riling me up right now, something’s off. He’s usually more of a fighter. And his breathing’s uneven. “Kai!”
“Yeah?”
“What’s wrong?”
“I’m bleeding. One of your assholes shot me.”
“How serious is it?”
“The shoulder.”
“You’ll live. You deserved it, too.”
“Fuck you.”
