She turns back around, her head burrowing into my neck. “Kai, you make me feel like a giddy teenager.”
I see something on the side of her face in the mirror, and nudge her away from me. “What’s this?” I pinch her chin and turn her face sideways, revealing a yellow-colored bruise above her cheek.
“Orion–”
“Orion did this?” He said he wouldn’t go all the way with Maisy. “The fucker!”
“Kai, I’m okay. It was an accident.”
“An accident? Huh!” I’m annoyed, but all I can do is rake my hands through my hair.
“He thought I was someone else, so he slammed his bathroom door in my face.”
“His bathroom door, as in inside his bedroom? He took you there?” I knew it. I knew it.
“No. I went there to wish him goodnight.”
“And? Did you see, um, his room?”
“Yes,” she giggles, which reassures me. “I saw the cross. It’s okay. I’m okay. He didn’t hurt me, I promise.”
I look at this woman and I want to grab her and run away with her to a different world. One where all of us live our lives like gods, enjoying her body.
If the cross didn’t scare her, we have her for good. Not everyone can handle Orion’s intensity. Yet she laughed about it. Maybe Orion’s met his match.
“Still, that doesn’t mean I’m not mad.”
“I’m sorry,” she purrs.
“I think I should be apologizing to you for not taking you out of here sooner.” I wink at her. “How about we go for a ride?”
Her eyebrows shoot up. “A ride? Where?”
“There’s a studio I want to check out for your video recording. After that, we’ll go for a ride with no destination. How does that sound, baby girl?”
Concern settles over her face. “Does Orion know?”
“Don’t worry. I left a message for him.”
She grins. “I’d do anything to get out of this house and smell the fresh air.”
“Good. Get dressed.” I slap her ass. “There’s nothing quite like riding a motorbike. Your legs wrapped around me, your body pressed against mine, your hands holding onto me. Fuck, I’m going to have to fuck you again if you don’t hurry!”
Maisy rummages through her clothes, pulls out a t-shirt and jeans, and gets dressed. She looks at her feet and sadness clouds her face. “I have no shoes.”
“It’s not a problem, we’ll get you some on the way.”
“What about people seeing my face?”
“You’ll have your helmet on, plus you have a new haircut now, so I wouldn’t worry that much.”
MAISY
I cannot contain my excitement as we walk out through the front door. I turn back to see it closing behind me. To see how it feels. I’ve been cooped up in Orion’s house for so long that it’s strange to be leaving it. Orion doesn’t want me going out, but if Kai’s found a studio that may have what I’m looking for, then we’re going there.
Behind the shrubs, Kai pulls open a curtain of greenery, showing off his bike like it’s on the red carpet or something. His chest puffs up with pride as he regards me.
“I love it!” I exclaim.
