“Um.” She looks to the door and nibbles on her lower lip. Eliza shifts on the spot and clears her throat.
“Sir,” Dante says from the door. Storm’s wagging his tail beside Dante.
“Excellent.” With a few quick commands, I have Storm come into the room. Dante heads down to my office leaving Storm, Eliza, and me alone. “The bathroom is in here.” I walk over to open the bathroom door and turn on the light, leaving it on. “And this is the closet.” I head over to the next door and open it. I flick the switch. “And this is your private office. I do hear you like reading, so tomorrow the office will be torn out and replaced with a library.” I open the door and turn the light on to show her the room. “My apologies for not having it already to your liking.”
“Wait,” she says as she moves toward the office. “You’re going to create a library here for me?”
“Of course. You do like to read, don’t you?” I ask to make sure.
“I do, but you don’t need to build a library for me. What will you do with it once I leave?”
I run my hand through my hair and straighten to my full six-foot-three height. “Let the designers know what you want in the room tomorrow. They’ll be here at eleven.” I turn off the light to the office and close the door. As I head out, I stop and turn to look at Eliza. “Anything you need, come and find me. But I think it’s best if you go to bed now. It’s late.”
She pushes her fingers through Storm’s fur and scratches his head. “Thank you,” she says.
I offer her no more than a brisk nod before heading down to my office, where Dante is waiting. “Sir,” he says and jumps to his feet when I close the door. “I’ll need to replace Storm.”
“Do so,” I say and sit at my desk. I loosen my tie and unfasten the top two buttons. “Adrian?”
Dante shakes his head. “He’s nowhere to be found.”
I sit back in my seat and stretch my arms before linking my fingers and resting my hands on my head. “The Fallen are holding his whereabouts close to their chests. The road captain refused to talk as did the sergeant.”
“What’s he promised for them to be so loyal to him?” Dante asks.
“Let’s find out. Get the vice president.”
Dante clicks his tongue. “The local chapter isn’t so big, it has maybe up to a hundred members, but the Fallen overall has a broad reach, especially on the West Coast.”
“If they are coming here, then it’s not just my family that they’ll impact. Get the VP and set him up in the shed. If we do nothing, they’ll come in and try to annihilate me. But if I tear them down, then perhaps the West Coast chapter will stay on their side of the country.”
“You’re thinking Adrian promised them turf?”
“The one thing I know for certain is that my nephew is cunning and has been a keeper of a lot of secrets. If I have to tear the Fallen apart to find out where he is, then I will. But on my terms, not his.”
“He may have disappeared.”
“He has, for now. But, let the boys know to look out for his crew. Tony is never too far from Adrian. And, if we find Tony, then we’ll get to Adrian.”
Dante clicks his tongue and nods. “And the girl?” He points above him.
“What about her?”
“She might know something.”
“She doesn’t,” I say as I lower my arms to rest on the chair and lift a brow.
“She may unintentionally know information. She may have overheard something.”
“Eliza stays out of this.”
“But—”
“Enough,” I say as I cross my arms in front of my body. Dante’s eyes lower to my chest, then rise once again. “I need three men with her whenever she leaves the house.”
“I’ll speak with Salvo, Rocco, and Christian.”
“Not Rocco,” I instruct. He’s too charming with the ladies, and I’d fucking kill him if he tried anything on Eliza. “Sabele.”
