“What?”
Instead of answering, he whirls around on me, cupping my face. At the same time the elevator doors slide closed, locking us in.
“Don’t you ever do that shit again. It’s not your job to fall on the sword for me. Ever. That’s my job as your husband. Do you understand me?” He shakes my head a little. There’s a slightly unhinged look in his eyes. However, I can’t help but mess with him even more.
“I don’t need your permission to do or not do any damn thing.” I push him away from me and fold my arms across my chest. “Besides, you’re not my husband for much longer, right?”
A low growl starts from the base of his throat.
“You’re determined to have a red ass before this fucking day ends.”
He takes my hand as the elevator doors open to the underground elevator.
“You still haven’t told me where we’re going. There’s a shitshow happening upstairs. Shouldn’t we be there for it?”
“What’s happening between you and me is more important,” he says with such earnestness that it hits me right in the chest.
But I can’t fold. “Kyle, nothing has changed between us.”
“Let’s play a game, Riley,” he says just as a car pulls up next to us.
The driver gets out and holds open the back door.
“This isn’t the time for games.”
“It’s the perfect time. Truth or dare. Ask me,” he tells me.
I raise an eyebrow and look between him and the car.
“Ask me, Riley.”
“Truth or dare, Kyle?”
His eyes gleam as he says, “Truth.”
My shoulders sag as the air leaves my body. The one thing I’ve always wanted from him.
“Let me show you my truth, Riley.” He holds out his hand to me.

It doesn’t take longto get to where Kyle’s taking me.
“We could’ve walked,” I tell him as we enter another underground garage of one of the tallest condominium buildings in the city. It’s only about a ten-minute walk from Townsend Industries. Making the drive barely five minutes.
“Come with me,” Kyle says as he waves the driver off and takes my hand to get out of the car.
“Where are we?” I ask.
He presses the button for the elevator before turning to me. “My home.”
I silently take that information in as we ride up to the fifteenth floor of the building. Kyle tells me which floor Kennedy and Diego live on. By the time we come to his door, I hold my breath as he places his thumb on the lock to scan his fingerprint.
“I’ll have to add your and Eve’s prints to unlock the door and for the main entrance.” He says the words so casually, as if we’re going to be spending a lot of time in this place.
As we enter, I take in the massive size of his condo. It’s a loft-style apartment with concrete floors, and massive floor-to-ceiling windows that let in tons of sunlight.
“This is my home, Riley.” He moves to stand by my side.
