He smiled, and I listened attentively.
"My perception of you the first time I saw you or the first time you noticed that I saw you?" he asked.
"You mean in the library or the latter?" I asked, and he nodded.
"The first time you actually saw me and then that time."
"Oh, two questions in one.”
“We're allowed to do that," I said, “as far as the major topic of discussion is related.”
He smiled and then nodded.
"Maybe you should have been a lawyer."
"I would have been," I said. "But I fell in love with scents more."
"What are you wearing right now?" he asked. "I was meaning to ask, it smells divine."
"It's our Enchanted Collection," I replied. "This one is made of dogwood blossoms."
He nodded.
"Would you want me to make one specially for you?" I asked, and he met my gaze with those beautiful eyes of his. If I was to go through this, I couldn't help thinking... if I was to truly have his baby, I wondered what color of eyes they would have, my hazel eyes or his piercing gray stare?
"I would," he replied. "You'll choose the scents specifically?"
"Yes," I replied and straightened up with interest.
"They'd represent me?"
"Yes,” I replied again.
"Hm, so what would you choose?"
I smiled and thought about this.
"Sandalwood for... a note of sophistication ... strength … bergamot for freshness, maybe a little lime, and most definitely vanilla bean for allure.”
"Hm, sounds wonderful," he said, and I nodded, now suddenly so excited to make his scent.
The one that would remind me of him at every turn.
"It will be," I promised, and we got back on track.

"The first time I can recall seeing you was at a bar," I said. She seemed surprised, but I was certain that my recollection was accurate.
"I think we were at some family function or the other, and you were a kid for sure because that was what stood out to me."
"A kid at a bar?"
"Yup," I replied. "Caught my attention instantly. You weren't allowed to drink, of course, but you had something else more... mature about you. Despite your age, you just sat there, drinking and watching everyone. What was funny to me back then was that it seemed as though you were trying to avoid mingling with the other kids, but you didn't just go hide in a corner. You sat where everyone could see you and I noted the difference."
"Oh my God," she said. "I can assure you that that most definitely was not my intention. I probably just liked the drinks or something."
