These little things were what slowly made me give my heart to him, which was why for the longest time I was both confused and tormented at the evidence I had been shown which was in such contrast to the person I knew him to be. Or at least the person he had shown me he was.
He didn’t talk so much, especially back then, but he showed his complete care and concern for me through his actions. So, finding out what he had done put me in a crisis with myself.
But not anymore.
I hoped.
This time around he seemed to not be wearing any masks or approaching me with any guise or pretenses and that at least was a relief, but I was still burned by him and would forever remain so. I strengthened my resolve to keep my distance.

“Um… is there a reason for that, sir?”
I lifted my gaze to Dahlia who was standing before me with a folder in hand.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“Is there a reason why you want to change our flight crew? Did someone recommend Jetly to you?”
I looked at her and repeated the exact same question I had been asking myself back to her.
“Does there have to be one?”
She gave me a look which bore all her suspicions as to my motives and it was quite amusing.
“Just get to it,” I said quietly. “And please make sure they’re scheduled to handle our flight on Thursday. I have to head out to Positano, right?”
“Yes, sir.”
“Alright get it done.”
She turned around to take her leave but at the last moment, I decided to include the stipulation that was non-negotiable.
“Dahlia?” she turned around with a smile.
“In the crew you arrange for us from now on can you always check to ensure that Callie Jacks is present on board? She’s one of their flight attendants.”
Aha! I could see the amusement in her eyes but thankfully she didn’t voice it out.
“Definitely,” she said and exited the office.
Two days later, confirmation came to me that the change in contractors had been made and that my flight leaving for Positano would most definitely include Callie on it.
I was elated, but at the same time irritated with myself as I wondered why the hell I was going through these lengths just to see her.
She had rejected me and been dismissive, and it had all been because of the misunderstanding that I had cheated on her.
The thing was that I still hadn’t made up my mind as to whether I was ready to bring it up with her. After all, she had never given me the same courtesy years earlier so this move, I guess, was to torment her the way she had tormented me. It seemed like an immature thing to do and so I battled with it. When Thursday arrived and I saw her waiting at the jet’s door for me as I climbed up the steps, I understood then why I had done it. On the surface, it was probably to get back at her but deep underneath it was because I had come to realize that no matter how upset I was with her, I still, and as always, just wanted to see her.
She didn’t meet my eyes as she welcomed me on board, and I didn’t pay her any attention either. I couldn’t wait for the journey to commence so that we could both be thirty-two thousand feet in the air together and uncomfortable as all hell.
She was the only air hostess serving on this flight since it was my personal plane, and I only had my assistant John with me this time around.
I was looking forward to it even more than my time in Positano, which included business engagements but also a little time for leisure. I had reports to sort through for the duration of the flight but beyond that and whenever she came into the vicinity, I was going to give her my full attention.
