“Will I ever get to know why you chose to never take me seriously?” I found myself saying.
At this, she wrenched her arm from my grasp and glared into my eyes.
“That was the past,” she said. “And I want to leave it where it is. It has nothing to do with the present.”
“Sure,” I smiled and watched as she walked away once again without looking back.

CALLIE
Me: If I could I would jump out of this airplane right now.
I sent the message and stared out of the window, and it didn’t take too long before Anna’s reply came in.
It was a series of photos that showed how much fun she was having in the well-lit restaurant.
Anna: Make sure to jump and land precisely at our table! I’ll save a drink for you.
I couldn’t help my smile at how foolish she sounded.
And then I sighed, but before I could reply her next text came through.
Anna: What’s wrong? I thought you were excited about this trip.
Me: I was, but you won’t believe who the client is.
Anna: Oh my God! A celebrity?
I rolled my eyes because I was never that lucky.
Me: Nope. More like a ghost from my past.
Her response came in too quickly.
Anna: Oh, he who shall not be named?!
My eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets.
Me: How is he your first guess??
Anna: He’s the only ghost that can afford to fly in a private jet.
I glanced back at my ghost and watched as he typed on his phone. With a groan, I typed back.
Me: You knew he was loaded?
Anna: Yeah, you didn’t?
Me: Why the hell would I?
I was curious how she knew but refused to ask.
Anna: I don’t know! I thought you just didn’t want to talk about it. I know how hard it was for you to get over him. I can’t believe he’s flying around in private jets. Jesus, Callie.
My irritation flared.
Me: What the fuck is that suppose to mean?
