Antika released an exhausted breath. “What a night.”
“Come here,” Drevon said, wrapping his strong arms around her, and she snuggled against his chest. She couldn’t think of any other place she’d want to be than in his arms.
“I can honestly say that there’s never a dull moment with you around.”
Drevon’s laughter rumbled against her ear that was pressed against his chest, and she smiled.
“I love you so much,” he whispered. “If you agree to marry me for real, I promise you a life of excitement.”
Antika lifted her head and stared into his gorgeous eyes. “I’d love to marry you.”
Grinning, he pressed his lips against hers, and his kiss sang through her veins.
Antika never knew she could be as happy as she was in that moment. And she couldn’t wait to see what the future held for them.
Epilogue
Three months later…
I think I’m pregnant.
I might be pregnant.
God, what if I’m pregnant?
The words volleyed inside of Antika’s head as she paced the length of Drevon’s massive bathroom. She had showed up at his place a few minutes ago for dinner where they planned to discuss their future. Getting married, her moving in with him next weekend, and the list went on and on.
Antika leaned a hip against the double vanity and stared at the rectangular box in her hand. She’d been carrying around the home pregnancy test for days, debating on when to take it. Her period was over a week late, but that could be due to the stress of her busy work schedule and all the changes in her life. Good changes but changes nonetheless.
The Monday after the fiasco at the Battle Brigade celebration, she’d been shocked to learn of Edward’s resignation. The owner who’d been hosting the event had been livid by his behavior. He had apologized profusely to her and Drevon, assuring them that the matter would be dealt with and that she wouldn’t have any more problems from Edward.
Antika later learned that Edward had been put on a behavior improvement probation months earlier after HR had received complaints regarding the way he talked to his subordinates. Then after his behavior the night of the event, he’d been given the option to resign or be terminated. He chose to resign.
What surprised Antika even more was when Edward called to apologize to her regarding his behavior during their relationship, but especially at work. That had been a first. He never apologized for anything. She half expected there to be a catch. Yet, he seemed sincere and had even wished her well. She hadn’t heard from him since.
“Antika.”
Antika startled at the sound of Drevon yelling up the stairs.
She opened the bathroom door. “Yes?”
“Baby, dinner will be ready in ten minutes.”
“Okay. I’ll be down shortly.”
Her attention went back to the pregnancy test. It’s now or never. She read the instructions then took the test.
The last few months had been a whirlwind. Drevon’s movie project had been green-lighted, and he was thrilled, but also incredibly busy. Filming wouldn’t start until the following year, but there was a ton of tasks to be handled prior to that. Thankfully, production would mostly be done in Atlanta.
Antika couldn’t be happier for him…for them. He’d made sure to keep her in the loop on everything, which she appreciated. More than that, though, she loved how he put their relationship first when making decisions.
She glanced at the pregnancy test that now laid on a pile of toilet paper on the vanity. In a couple of minutes, she’d know -pregnantornot pregnant.
Her nerves were getting the best of her. It wasn’t that she thought Drevon would leave her, but they hadn’t talked about kids. They’d barely had time to discuss wedding plans. But she had turned forty last month. Her window of opportunity was closing quickly. So it felt like a now-or-never scenario, even though she knew women still had babies in their forties.
She checked the time on her watch.Time’s up.
“Okay, here goes.”She lifted the test from the vanity and stared at it.
