"Is that...?"

The doctor laughs. "Yes, that's the heartbeat of your child."

His eyes go wide with amazement. And I can't help but let a teardrop fall from relief and happiness. Nick twists to me, and when our eyes connect, the pure love, adoration, and happiness showing in his eyes makes my heart flutter. He leans in and places a tender kiss on my lips. The doctor does another few measurements, and when she removes the ultrasound device, I'm missing the heartbeat sound. It's the purest symphony I've heard in six years.

"Congratulations. To my estimates, you're around ten weeks pregnant, and the baby is fine. I'll prescribe prenatal vitamins, and we'll make another appointment. If you're worried or have questions, call the office," she states, while offering me a towel to remove the remaining gel.

I sit up and redress myself before returning to my seat.

"Do you have questions?" she says, looking at both of us.

"When do we hear if it's a boy or a girl?"

The doctor grins. "At the next appointment, if the baby is lying correctly."

Nick nods, then he rubs his chin. "What can or can't Emma do during her pregnancy?"

The doctor studies him and chuckles. "As long as she listens to her body, she can do anything."

"And exercise things?" he asks, now rubbing his hand over his chiseled chin.

"With exercise, you mean sex?"

I glance at Nick and giggle when I see his cheeks glow at the doctor’s directness.

"The answer is yes. Having sex is healthy for a couple during pregnancy. A father doesn't have to be scared that he'll hurt the baby if you have intercourse. An enjoyable thing for fathers is that most pregnant women experience an increase in their libido during pregnancy. So I say, enjoy each other."

The doctor hands Nick a printout with a few photos, and after making another appointment, we walk out of the doctor's office. As we step out into a lovely warm fall sun that shines upon us, I stop and glance at Nick, who stops to gaze at the photo in his hand. When I want to say something, he glances up and pulls me into his chest.

"Nick," I yelp as my hands land on his rib cage. My eyes travel up to his face. With his arms wrapped around me, he speaks.

"Our baby," he mumbles while planting his forehead against mine. "I'm so thrilled, Angel. You have made my life perfect, and I can't wait to tell my parents and Brian and Cole and—"

"Ho, stop. You need to wait before shouting it out, handsome."

"What? Why?"

“The first twelve weeks, the chance of a miscarriage is the highest, and I don't want to tempt fate."

Nick lifts our hands and brings them to his lips, placing kisses on my knuckles. "Okay, Angel.

He squints his eyes. "Isn't it Charlotte's birthday this month?" he asks, still deep in his thought process.

"Yes, Charlotte's birthday is on November twentieth."

“Oh... we're going to give our girl a fantastic birthday present.”

I nod and take his hand.

“Do you remember when we made this unique human, Nickolas Brown?"

Nick's eyes dart over me as he ponders my words. Then his wandering eyes stop, and his pupils dilate. "We created this baby at my house?"

"Yep, the day of the egg-throwing, during our make-up session in your gym."

His smile widens further.

"Guess my swimmers fell in love with your egg the first time they saw it. I can't be prouder," he says, brushing his lips along mine.
