"Uh… go where?"

"To the store to buy a pregnancy test. I want to know if my daydreams are becoming a reality."

I cough when his words get processed and interpreted by my prefrontal cortex.

His daydream? His fingers caress my cheeks, and as my eyes meet his, he brings my face closer before speaking.

"You, carrying our baby, has become a recent dream of mine, Angel. When I was in New York, I daydreamed about you. And every time I saw you, you had a big pregnant belly."

I swallow to let my saliva moisturize my dry mucous membranes. Nick's lips are inches from mine, and his warm breath warms my skin.

"So why don't you move that delicious body of yours off me before I make you scream my name in ecstasy?"

A shiver of heat burns through me.

"Or is that what my angel longs for?" he asks while the tip of his tongue darts out.

Shades of heat fight for a place to color the skin of my neck and face as his words affect me. Pictures of my nails digging into his flesh during a new orgasm overtake my inner vision, and Nick's deep, sexy, soft chuckle only increases the color. Fuck these horny hormones.

I slide off his lap and sense his eyes roaming over me. God, his eyes have turned into laser beams, which have the superpower of imprinting women with desire.

"Stop the gaze, Brown."

A burst of booming, panty-dropping laughter leaves his chest, and I have to inhale to calm my raging hormones.

"Let's go, love," he says while walking towards the front door.

A deep exhale leaves my lungs before my feet follow him.

Breathe,I tell myself as I lean against the wall of my hallway while staring at the bathroom door. My foot taps on the wooden floor, mimicking the tempo of my heartbeat—presto forte, and with every second that passes by, it only increases. How long does it take to pee? My palms touch each other, and my fingertips tap against each other. A moment later, they brush through my hair. The sound of the bathroom door opening has me jumping in place. Emma appears, holding a cup in her hands. Her teeth are pulling on her bottom lip.

"Do you want to do the test?"

My lips curl. "Sure."

As I stop next to her by the sink, we gaze at the cup with light yellow fluid in it. A little small white stick appears in my vision.

"You need to dip this absorbent end of this in the urine and hold it there for five to ten seconds."

My fingers take the stick, and with a trembling hand, I do what she explained to me. After ten seconds, I pull it out, place it next to the cup, and turn and face her.

"And now?" I say,

"Now the two to five-minute waiting game begins."

"You’re nervous, love."

She gawks at the test as if it's a bomb. "Nervous is not the word I would use for this."

I step in front of her and lift her chin. Her eyes show anxiety and worry.

"What are you hoping for?"

"That's not a fair question, Nick. This situation reminds me of the last time I took a pregnancy test. The result changed my life drastically." Her eyes dart to various angles as she remembers. "It made my parents shun me, and the father of my child to disappear." She swallows as her eyes fill with emotions.

My hands glide over both her arms to her shaking hands. "I understand this is hard on you, but I promise that whatever the outcome of that test, I'm here, and I'm staying."
