After a couple of hours, Stiletto’s pain medication began to wear off, and she figured it was best if she got back to bed. If she let it get out of control, there was little hope she’d sleep that night. Because he was watching her as if she’d disappear if his eyes left her for a moment, Trick clocked it and approached.
They said their goodbyes, and Trick pushed her in her chair out of the building, with Brute, Rock, and Ranger surrounding them like her very own secret service. When they reached the parking lot, the Claws were standing there in a group with a woman she knew to be Crush standing in front.
There was no warmth in her face when she said, “Welcome to the family. Don’t make us regret it.”
Stiletto held her chin high as she replied, “You won’t.”
The woman nodded before she turned and walked away.
Then a woman with silver blond hair approached with a smile on her face. She was wearing teal contacts, and Stiletto thought she pulled off the look well. “Hey. I’m Kisy.” She held out her hand.
Stiletto shook it. “Stiletto.”
As the rest of the Claws disbursed, Kisy told her, “Don’t mind Crush. She’s always grumpy as hell.”
“Understatement of the century,” Ranger commented.
Kisy grinned, then looked to Stiletto again. “If you need anything, let us know. The Shifty Sisters can’t let one of our own go without.”
“I’m not an Ol’ Lady yet,” Stiletto commented.
Brute scoffed and waved off her words. “Details.” Then he patted Trick on the back. “When you calling that vote?”
Stiletto looked to Trick and found him staring at her with love in his eyes. “Probably tomorrow.”
She smiled at him, and he winked.
“Great!” Kisy skipped off for the clubhouse. “I’ll let the Shifty Sisters know we have an induction tomorrow!”
Trick shook his head, but he chuckled as he pushed the wheelchair into movement again. “You don’t know it, but you just inherited a fierce sisterhood.”
“Always wanted one of those,” she replied as he stopped the wheelchair at the side of the car.
Chapter Thirty
Trick
Sittingatthetablewith his brothers was an odd experience for Trick. After months of being away, and the tenuous state of their relationship, it felt weird to be in church, ready to claim Stiletto at the table and have his brothers vote on it. The result of the vote wouldn’t change things between him and Stiletto. She was his mate, and that was the end of that. If the vote didn’t go the way he wanted it to, it would definitely change his relationship with the group of men around him. He didn’t want to choose between his family and Stiletto, but if they forced his hand, they wouldn’t like the outcome.
Axle pounded his fist on the table to quiet the men. Once the talking ceased, he looked around the room and said, “Trick has called church because he has something to say. Go ahead, Brother.”
Trick cleared his throat and stared down at the table in front of him as he announced, “Stiletto is my mate. I have spent months getting to know her and letting her see who shifters really are. The hole in her abdomen is proof that her views have changed on the subject. I’m claiming her at the table.”
He didn’t figure more needed to be said. They all knew the state of things, and their opinions were going to be what they were. If one of them wanted to stand in the way of Stiletto getting his property patch, he’d find out soon enough, and he’d handle it accordingly.
Before Axle could even call for a vote, Brute said, “She’s got my vote.”
“Same,” Rock uttered.
“Mine, too,” Ranger announced.
Each of his brothers called out their approval of his mate until the only one left was Rex. Trick lifted his gaze and locked on the older member. Once they made eye contact, Rex smiled and said, “Clean slate, Brother. It’s a yes from me.”
“Doc?” he asked, wondering how Rex’s mate felt about it.
“Has had months to deal with her feelings.” He shrugged. “She also let her anger out in a very… productive way. She’s good. They probably won’t be besties, but she’s fine.”
Trick gave a nod as his bear let out a huff of relief, rolled onto its back, and lounged in contentment.
