Page 69 of Rex's Release

“What?” Rex was confused. What did that mean?“Where?”

“That’s between Trick and Axle. All I know is Trick is taking a leave for a while, and he is going to take her away while they… work things out.”

Rex considered Top’s words for a while. As much as he didn’t like the idea of his club brother being away from them and on his own, he understood the situation Trick was in. They had limited options. If they were to stay in town, she would be a prisoner. How could Trick build trust with her and a relationship if her choices were taken away? But if they left for a while and put distance between them and the club, Trick could feel comfortable that she wasn’t a danger to the kids, but he wouldn’t have to be her prison guard. He could just be her man. They could work things out and get to know each other better. As much as he didn’t like it, it was the right move.

“He’s going to check in, right?”

Top shrugged. “I imagine Brute and Rock aren’t going to let him go silent.”

That was true. His brothers would make him check-in, if for no other reason than to give their mother, Mama Nia, some peace of mind.

“I think Trick has it under control,” Score said, and leaned back in his chair. “It will be a rough go, because I’m not sure they like each other yet, but he can handle it.”

“It’ll make Trick’s sex life interesting, if nothing else,” Rex said with a laugh.

“Angry sex is fun,” Top commented, making all of them laugh.

Doc

Doc was going to turn Rex down and tell him to stay at the compound for another night, then he mentioned that he had his club brothers prepare his house with stability equipment. She was hesitant, worried about him injuring himself and delaying his healing, but he was insistent. Eventually, she promised to pick up the puppies and Nevaeh, and bring them to his house.

When she arrived and made her way up the stairs to check out the accommodations, she was impressed. As a matter of fact, the boys might have gone a little overboard with the support bars. Rex could walk the entire way to the bathroom without having to go more than a few inches without holding on to a bar.

When she spotted the newly installed permanent support bars in the shower, she smirked as thoughts of how they could be used when he was fully healed drifted through her head. Filing away certain positions and ideas, she left the bathroom and made her way into his bedroom, where he was lying on the bed.

His ice blue gaze shifted from the phone in his hand to her. “Does it pass your standards, Doc?”

“I think your brothers care about you very much.”

He snorted. “Sure… but they are also assholes. Overboard assholes.”

She sat on the edge of the bed. “Maybe, but they want you to recover… and they aren’t above setting things up to make you happy.” Rex’s brows pulled together. “The shower bars. They gave me ideas.”

His confusion slid away, and he chuckled. “Yeah… I already had those ideas, so we’re on the same page.”

She winked at him. “Then I guess you should follow doctor’s orders and heal up, huh?”

“Guess I better.” His grin was full of heat and sin.

Thirty-Four

Doc

Monthsago, beforehermother’s accident, Doc had put in a request to take the week of and the week after Christmas off for vacation, with the intent to spend it in Florida with her mother. When Rex found out about her trip, he asked if he could join her, so she decided to shorten it to only the week after Christmas. She didn’t want to be the reason he didn’t spend Christmas with Nevaeh and his family.

After their celebration with his family at the clubhouse on Friday, Christmas day, they would catch a flight and head down to see her mother. Nevaeh was going to stay with Beast and the foster puppy while they were gone, but Doc knew Rex was already arranging for various aunts and uncles to drop in and check on them. Adult or not, she was his little girl, and he would always protect her.

With no need to head into work, Doc was sitting on a stool at his kitchen island while she watched him move around the room preparing them lunch. From what she could tell by the ingredients on the counter and the pans he was using, he was making grilled ham and cheese sandwiches with a cream cheese dipping sauce and homemade sweet potato fries.Yum!The man was a god.

Doc felt like she had really hit the jackpot with him. He could cook, grocery shop, make a decent cup of coffee, take orders like a champ, and went out of his way to make sure she was happy. He cared about her and Beast, and wanted to enrich her life in any way he could. They were made for each other. Whether that was because of fate or not wasn’t important. And Doc was all-in.

Ten minutes later, when he set her plate down in front of her and kissed her lips, she decided it was the perfect time to tell him. He was fully healed from his injuries.Thank the gods for shifter healing. And he was fully committed to her. It was time for him to know she felt the same way about him.

As he rounded the island to stand on the other side and eat his food, she said, “I want to do the mating thing, but I want to be married first.”

Okay. She probably should have waited for him to finish chewing his first bite. She hopped up and rounded the island to smack him on the back as he sputtered through choking on the bite of sandwich.

Once he had recovered, he looked down at her and asked, “Are you sure?”
