I need you…

 Are you okay?

 I’m calling security now

 And I’m on my way

 He just came back

 I’m scared

Getting shot and nearly dying didn’t faze me. The thought of anything happening to the woman I love physically hurts.

 thirty one

 ISABELLA

Pacing the kitchen with my phone in hand, I wait anxiously for Alex to text me back.

 He never ignores my texts.

 Ever.

 Alex?

 I need you…

 If anything happened to him…

 Are you okay?

 I’m calling security now

 Thank God…

 And I’m on my way

The elevator dings and I hear the doors slide open.

That’s too soon to be Alex…

Moving to the other side of the island so that I can see into the foyer, my heart stops when I see it’s Eddie. Quickly walking back to the other side of the island to but a barrier between us, I text Alex back.

 He just came back

 I’m scared

I no more than send the text as Eddie is approaching the other side of the island. I didn’t notice earlier, but he is a mess. Especially for a man that usually takes a lot of pride in his appearance. His hair is disheveled, he hasn’t shaved, and his eyes are bloodshot.

Reaching the island, he places his left hand on the countertop. When he does the same with his right, I step back and swallow hard at the sight of the gun. Staring at me, he intimidatingly taps the gun on the marble.

And fuck, does it ever work.

“Time to go, sweetheart,” his words ice through my veins.

“I’m not going anywhere with you, Eddie.”

“Don’t fucking call me Eddie,” he seethes at me, “And I’m not fucking asking.”
