Zoey

My phone beeped withan incoming call from Meredith. I immediately answered.

"Good morning, Meredith."

"Hi, Zoey. I didn't wake you up, did I?"

"No, not at all. I've been up for a while."

"Awesome. Penny, Natalie, and I thought it would be cool to go out today and enjoy the sunny weather. Care to join us? We’d love to get to know you better."

"Sure. I don't have any plans."

We’d spoken yesterday about maybe meeting today, but I hadn’t made any commitment.

I was hoping for a certain sexy man to call, but at this point, I wasn't sure when that was going to happen. But it was better to be outside enjoying the day than moping around.

"Perfect," she exclaimed. "I can pick you up in... I don't know, an hour or so?"

"That's great. Gives me enough time to get ready.”

I might be a morning person, but not on weekends.

"We can't wait."

"What are we doing?" I asked.

"Oh, a bit of this, a bit of that," she said vaguely.

It sounded like they didn't have a plan, but that was good. We could play it by ear.

I kept my phone next to me as I dressed and got ready for the day, but Colton didn't text or call. Clearly, he was still busy with work. My heart was growing heavier.

I touched my necklace, but I’d rather have him here by my side. I was totally head over heels in love, and I wanted my man.

Exactly one hour later, I went downstairs in front of my building. A black Range Rover pulled up in front of me. Meredith was driving, Natalie was next to her, and Penny was in the back. I opened the door to the back seat and climbed next to her.

"Hello, girls!" I said.

Meredith turned around, looking at me intently. "How's your day going so far?" she asked.

I shrugged. "It was just a lazy Sunday morning." I bit the inside of my cheek, wondering if I should ask if they'd heard anything from their guys about Colton, but I decided not to.

"Where are we going?" I asked.

"We thought about maybe a day trip to Salem." Penny was looking at me curiously.

That was an interesting choice. Did they know I'd already been there with Colton?

Oh, stop it, Zoey. You're going out on a day with the girls. Enjoy it.

"That's great. I was there recently with Colton."

Now I realized that Natalie was also looking at me in the rearview mirror. Something was off with all of them. Although, honestly, I didn't know them well enough to draw that conclusion. Maybe I was just making things up in my mind.

"Excellent," Penny said. "Then you can show us around a bit. Now, who wants to make a pit stop and buy some goodies for the road?"

I laughed.
