Hesitantly, they raised their hands, pushing the fabric off their faces.

Brennon blinked. “Oh. Well, now I just feel stupid.”

Izabel looked around. “We’re alone.”

“Yes,” Rowan confirmed.

“Here’s a question…does anyone have any idea what the fuck is going on?” Brennon asked conversationally.

“No,” Rowan said. At the same time Izabel replied, “Yes.”

Rowan looked at her.

She looked back, brow furrowed. “Your hands are behind you.”

“And they cuffed your ankles,” Brennon added.

Rowan shrugged uncomfortably. “I fought back.” Not that it did any good.

Izabel shook her head, as if trying to focus. “We’ve been kidnapped for ransom.”

Huh. That hadn’t occurred to him.

“Ransom?” Brennon looked around.

“We’re in a mansion of some kind,” Rowan said.

“How do you know?”

“I got my hood off briefly.”

“The fight we heard?” Brennon asked.

“Are you okay?” Izabel looked him up and down. “Don’t try to fight. My parents will pay and we’ll be home soon.”

“You think we were kidnapped because of your parents?”

“Yes. My daddy was heir to the Montgomery fortune.”

When Rowan had been introduced to Izabel’s parents the other night, she’d introduced her dad as Richard Serra and her daddy as William Montgomery, a common enough name until you add the word “fortune” to the end of it. The Montgomery family’s wealth was right up there with the Rockefellers and the Waltons.

“I used to travel with bodyguards up until I was twenty-five, and I’ve been trained since I was a child by K&R specialists on what to do if I’m kidnapped.”

“As a child, they prepped you for what to do if you were kidnapped?” Brennon asked.

“Yes. It’s a common precaution.”

Brennon looked at Rowan, who was trying to keep his expression neutral.

Brennon looked back to Izabel. “Uh…no, it’s not.”

Rowan couldn’t hold back his snort of amusement.

Izabel raised her chin. “Yes, it is.”

“In crazy-rich-people land!” Brennon threw his cuffed hands in the air.

“I estimate we’ll be home in twelve hours or so,” Izabel said. “Well, depending on how long we were out.” She looked at her wrist and then at Rowan. “My smart watch is gone.”
