“Excuse me?” V’Lor asks, confused.
“Candy!” I exclaim to cover my lapse and shove the bowl towards them.
“No, thank you.” H’Aart smiles at me. “Ready?”
“Yes!” I say and I’m already walking towards them, then I see some trick or treaters heading over and I pause. “Wait until these folks are done, then I’ll grab my keys and we can go. You can, uh, wait here next to me.”
I plop down in the chair and they lower to one knee on either side of me in some kind of a ready position, like they’re my loyal subjects or they’re saying a prayer. I want to pat them each on the shoulder and tell them they’re doing great, but the thought of touching them makes me dizzy with desire, so I grip my knees and wait for the trick or treaters to arrive.
Chapter 4: H’Aart
Miranda is sending off so many mating signals it’s like she’s a sex beacon. I’ve never met another creature so hungry to mate except maybe V’Lor when we first matched. It would be funny if it weren’t so distracting. How are we supposed to give her the gift when she’s swamping our senses with her desperate horniness?
I know I told V’Lor I wouldn’t try to mate with her, but it feels unkind to leave her wanting. We shall see how the evening develops. Despite the pleasure we shared earlier, I believe V’Lor will find it impossible to resist her for long either. That dress which hugs her generous human curves will only make it harder for him to resist.
I follow her gaze and watch as a small group of humans approaches. They look like outcasts from Viprex 3, a planet so violent and perilous that everyone in the galaxy stays away. The humans are draped in chains with bloody gashes and pointy weapons, just as we’d expect from Viprexans. Sensing danger, V’Lor and I rise wordlessly to our feet. These humans are significantly shorter, likely youths, but that doesn’t mean they’re not vicious. They emerge from the mist holding fabric bags and shout what I can only assume is a battle cry.
“Trick or treat!” Their childish voices must be an attempt to lull us into a false sense of security.
“Stand down!” V’Lor cries in response and we step in front of Miranda. We assume our defensive positions, ready to battle. Too bad we did not bring our spears.
“Whoah,” the shortest one cries and stumbles back.
“So cool,” the one next to him mumbles and also takes a step back.
“That’s enough boys,” a melodic voice calls out. It’s Miranda. She’s grabbed our arms and is trying to pull us back. We do not move.
“These creatures look dangerous. You should not trouble yourself Miranda. We will take care of them,” V’Lor says, without looking away from the threatening group before us.
“They’re here for candy. I promise they’re not a threat. You’re not a threat, are you?” She asks the small monsters. They hesitate for a moment, and I take a menacing step closer to them.
“No!” they shout in unison. “We’re cool!”
“Not a threat!”
“Just want candy!”
I stop and the group of us stay locked in position. Miranda giggles under her breath. She steps around us and hands the bowl of candy to the shortest of the fiends.
“You can take the rest. Great costumes by the way.”
The little one nods and the bigger one grins.
“Thanks lady!” The little one dumps the bowl of candy into his sack and takes off running. The rest of them follow. As they retreat, we hear one say, “That was nuts!”
Miranda watches them go, then turns around and smiles at the two of us. I can see laughter in her eyes and affection.
“You two are unbelievable. I guess they don’t have trick or treaters where you’re from.”
“No,” V’Lor grumbles something about dangerous creatures in our native language.
I put a calming hand on his shoulder, and he relaxes under my touch. Miranda watches transfixed for a second, then pats her cheeks like she’s trying to wake from a dream. She sends another wave of horny signals our way then heads for the door of her house.
“I’ll just grab my purse and a sweater I guess, and we can go. Where are we going, by the way? I can’t believe I didn’t ask that earlier. It’s just…. Anyway, what’s the plan?”
V’Lor steps forward like he’s about to make a pronouncement. I love seeing him act so official and proud.
“We have a special vehicle that Fancy wanted to show you. She sent us to give you a ride and let you look under the hood. I’m not familiar with those terms, but we will allow you to look at the engine and fuel delivery system.”
