“It’s just some bad memories…” I trail off.
Shaking my head and raising my chin, I act as if it’s proof that I’ve got rid of the thoughts that haunt my mind.
Reed plasters a comforting smile on his face, pulling me closer. I look up to him, slightly leaning back so I can keep my eyes on his due to our height difference.
His face looks as if it’s been crafted carefully, with the perfect sharp and soft points, like an actual work of art. Despite his eyes looking tired, they are such a unique shade of blue that glows almost white as it gets closer to the pupil of his eye.
Sinking against him as his strong arms pull me in for a hug, he practically squeezes the air out of me.
Normally, I would resist but it’s exactly what I need right now. The muscles of his chest rest against my cheek, the buttons of his shirt pressing into my skin. I stand there for a moment before I realize, this hug isn’t just for me, the situation with Allie and the divorce they’re going through can’t be easy.
Maybe, we both just need a person right now. Maybe, we just need to forget about life and all its worries and need someone to distract us from this reality. Pulling back slightly, he loosens his grip fast, coughing to cover up his awkwardness.
Finding a newfound confidence in my revelation, I promised myself tonight would be about forgetting. Tonight, would be about change and finding myself again, what better way to start that off, than finding someone as equally damaged to pour my heart into.
Grabbing Reed’s hand, I pull him towards the entrance of the hotel before he has a chance to speak, or before I have a chance to fall back into whatever hole I’ve managed to climb out of.
No looking back now.
Chapter 9
Reed
I slide my key card into the hotel room door slot, pushing it open, allowing Indie to enter first.
As I follow in after her, I walk past the full-length mirror barely recognizing who is looking back.
Hanging up my blazer jacket in the corridor, I watch as she starts to unstrap her heels, bending over as her dress becoming restrained against her backside.
In an attempt to avert my attention, I drink in the stock artwork on the walls whilst I wait for her to finish up so that I can get past her.
The last thing I want is to have to squeeze past her, crotch to ass. That part can wait until later.
Standing up, she saunters away, looking around at the different rooms that lead off. Giving her a moment to feel comfortable, I head towards the mini bar, grabbing a bottle of red wine and heading back towards the kitchen.
“Wine okay?” I call to her, as she proceeds to the living room.
“Wine is fine,” she responds.
I grab a corkscrew and two of the large wine glasses from the cupboard, rinsing them as the fingerprints on them have me uneasy.
Strolling back over to the living space, I pop all three items onto the glass coffee table. She leans forward and grabs the bottle, bringing it straight to her lips.
She takes me by surprise as a laugh erupts my throat, “That bad, huh?”
Her eyes flick to mine as she scoffs a laugh into the wine bottle, trying not to spill anything in her mouth. I watch as her lips wrap around the top of the bottle once again, her lipstick slightly smudged. Something about the way she is doing that is so fucking seductive.
When she is finished, she licks her lips, her tongue lingering out of her mouth longer than necessary causing my mind to run to images of her on her knees, licking my entire length tauntingly.
Taking the bottle from her, I split the remainder of it into the two glasses I brought over, trying to calm my brain from the dirty thoughts I’m having. I hand her one of the glasses and take a large gulp from mine, letting the warmth of the liquid burn my throat on the way down.
I can feel her watching me, her beautiful green eyes wander all over my body. The sexual tension in the air is thick and tempting, we both know what our intentions were when I asked her to come here.
“So, Indie,” I begin as she takes a sip of her wine, waiting for me to finish.
“How about we cheers, to forgetting about reality tonight,” I raise my glass to hers, my grin bearing teeth.
She beams at me, clinking her glass with mine.
