After I’d informed Devon of the drastic measures of my in-laws, he assured me that he could help. What I hadn’t realized, is that by ‘help’, he meant that he would uncover information that turned this entire situation on its head.
He gave me a new level of truth that I would never have believed if he didn’t have the proof to back it up.
Devon’s entire team belong to a force higher than our law enforcement, a hidden vigilante group that have impacted the world in so many ways without any of them realizing it.
It’s not that I didn’t trust him, it was just what he told me was so unbelievable that it didn’t make sense, it changed everything.
With Devon being able to orchestrate the entire plan, it meant that it actually seemed feasible. The plan he has come up with is far beyond anything a ‘normal’ human would be able to conjure, the detail and the number of ‘back-up’ plans is insane, making sure that the plan is flawless.
Of course, Indie will have to be clued in and that is something I’m going to have to spend the next sixteen hours of flight time, explaining.
For now, I let her have her victory.
“Thank you, so fucking much.” I kiss her deeply and she sighs into the kiss.
“Let’s go and get your daughter back.” she grins at me and takes my hand, grabbing her travel case in the other.
“Let’s go and get our daughter back.” I confirm, as she looks at me tearfully.
It feels like my world, divided by oceans, rivers, and lakes, has finally been provided with a passageway to our safe haven.
Chapter 30
Reed
“We really must get you a new car,” I insist, listening to the rattle of the engine and shift myself in the uncomfortable seat.
“Oh, stop it. You sound exactly like my mother.” She waves me off and places both her hands back on the steering wheel.
The airport is busier than normal for a Thursday, but the perk of chartering a jet is the exclusive VIP route. We’re done with security in less than ten minutes and we’re having a quick bite to eat.
“Are you scared?” Indie asks me, taking a bite of her bagel.
“Scared for what?” I sip my black coffee and bounce my leg up and down, eager to board the plane.
“I don’t know… just, what if something bad happens?” She questions.
I’m not exactly sure what she thinks Rachel and Bill are capable of, but it’s definitely more than I expected. They’ve proved me wrong on that point. Never judge a book by its cover, you never know what’s written in between the lines.
In this case, it was the fact that they were clever enough to spring something so detrimental to the case last minute that none of us considered the idea that it could be falsified.
I didn’t think that they would have the balls to actually take her to Dubai, but knowing what I know now, their actions aren’t that of their own.
“I just can’t wait to see her sweet face, Reed. I’ve missed her so much.” Indie grasps hold of my hand, threading her fingers in between mine.
What she hasn’t realized is, she’s changed everything. She turned this entire thing around, she fulfilled me with hope, she held me up when I couldn’t stand, she was the person who kept filling me with the passion to fight. She will never be able to understand how much I appreciate her for that, but I will spend my entire life trying.
“You have no idea, Indie.” I smile.
“Mr. and Mrs. Breckenridge, Flight A329 is now boarding. The pilot has requested a quick word with you before take off.”
“Come on, my darling wife.”
I take her hand as she grabs her iced coffee to take with us and we walk over to the gate. We show our electronic boarding passes, listed under random aliases and we don’t provide our passports, which the agency is already aware of.
Sometimes, we have to do similar things for our cases, especially when it’s with the top companies who want to keep everything under wraps, so it’s not unfamiliar to any of us, but Indie.
Devon has ensured everything is set in place, everything is to run smoothly.
