“Ugh whatever, I’ll call her.”

Turning away from the door, I begin to dial her number and make our way back towards the elevators.

The phone goes straight to voicemail.

I pull the phone away from my ear and redial.

Voicemail.

I stop walking, confusion pulling at me.

“Can you try her? I don’t think my phone is getting a great signal.” I ask Indie.

She nods and tries her phone.

“Voicemail,” she says.

I look at her quizzically.

“Maybe they’re at the movies and she’s turned her phone off?” Indie tries to reassure me.

“Yeah, maybe.”

My thoughts are turning more sinister, like she’s done this to fuck with the court case because of her hatred for me. She knows we only have two hours until the case begins, and she’s not incapable of telling the time.

Anger starts to bubble up, the last thing I need is something like this to throw me off before I need to present my best character in front of a judge.

We walk out of the front of the building and pause, thinking what we should do.

“Have you tried Bridget? Maybe she’s been dropped off there?” Indie suggests.

What harm could it do?

Bridget picks up quickly.

“Hey Bridget, is Willow with you?” I ask politely, keeping my cool.

“No, why, should she be?” She responds in a panic.

“No, no. I just wondered, have you seen her at all? She stayed with Britney last night and she’s not picking up, she knows how important today is.” My tone becomes frustrated towards the end.

“Oh gosh, I haven’t seen her but I’ll let you know if I do, I’ll call you later to check up.” She ends the call and Indie is watching me intently.

I shake my head.

I try Britney again, voicemail.

What the fuck is going on?

I fist my hair and let out a strangled cry of frustration.

“Where could she be?” Indie sighs, looking around the streets as if she’d just see her strolling by.

I’m beginning to grow more and more suspicious. The way that she agreed almost instantaneously to coming to the wedding, despite the animosity between the three of us. The way she offered to have Willow overnight when previously, it was a mission to get her to look after her for a few hours.

The gnawing feeling in my gut intensifies, my thoughts running wild, thinking of how she could fuck up my life entirely if she doesn’t get back here in the next hour.

“There she is!” Indie cries out, pointing across the streets. Britney walks hand in hand with Lo, carrying an ice cream in their free hands.
