When she opened the door, there were her two men. They paused and looked at her and then each other.
“What are you doing, Lily?” Will asked his dark eyes narrowing, his mouth turned down.
Oh no. She glanced around them and saw that they were gone.
“I was coming to warn you about Jim White. Where is he?”
“He’s gone,” Seth said. “Why are you wearing clothes?”
She was in trouble and she knew it.
“I couldn’t come outside naked, now, could I?”
“Didn’t we tell you to stay in the house?”
There was a look on their face that she didn’t like. One that left her uneasy. One that clearly stated trouble.
Will closed the door.
“Yes, but you don’t know what kind of man he is,” she said as they slowly walked toward her.
Will’s eyes glinted with anger and Seth’s face was drawn in a frown. They were furious with her and she feared she was about to get into trouble.
“I was coming out to protect you,” she said.
They both laughed and then became serious.
“What did we tell you this morning?” Will asked.
She bit her lip and glanced at him, uneasiness filling her. “To stay in the house. But Jim White is a lying, conniving man who wants to steal our ranch.”
“Not our ranch. Your ranch,” Seth said.
“But we’re married,” she replied.
“Doesn’t matter. The ranch is still yours. If you want to leave it to our children, that’s wonderful, but it will remain yours. But you’re avoiding the fact that you disobeyed us.”
Stunned that they didn’t want the ranch, she couldn’t help but wonder if they planned on staying. “Does this mean you’re not going to stay and help me?”
“Of course not,” Will said.
“Lily, I enjoy being a Texas Ranger,” Seth said. “But I would always return.”
She took the two steps to Seth and wrapped her arms around him, hoping she could erase the anger from them both. “I can’t imagine life without either one of you.”
Her hand reached out and pulled Will into their embrace. “You’re my men now.”
“Who you disobeyed.”
“Only to protect you,” she said. “And to give Jim White a tongue lashing.”
They chuckled.
“Take the dress off,” Will instructed.
Stepping out of their arms, she unbuttoned the garment and lifted it over her head. “I only was going to wear it while I was outside, then I would have taken it off when I returned.”
“Do you trust us?” Seth asked.
