Chapter Thirteen
Sutton felt as if she had slept for days, and it still wasn’t enough. But rays of sunlight played across her face and immediately, the night before came back to her in vivid detail.
She sat up in the bed, hugging the sheet to her when she realized she was naked. And then she lost all coherent thoughts.
In various stages of getting ready for the day were three of the most magnificent men she had ever seen in her life. And they had done wicked things to her last night.
“Go back to sleep,” Maxim said, coming to her and kissing her.
“But I have to work,” she said, suddenly remembering she had a job.
“Not anymore,” Ezra said, kissing her before he followed Maxim out of the room. “Your only job is to get pregnant and spend our money.” He pointed to a series of black credit cards that had her name on it.
“Mrs. Hampstead will be taking care of you. Anything you need, you just ask her. Got it?” Jensen said as he kissed her, too, then waited for her to answer him before he left.
Clearly, they didn’t know that their housekeeper hated her. Instead, she nodded obediently and closed her eyes. Sleep came more readily than she expected. While her body was still alive with delicious sensation after sensation, she was still exhausted and sore, but somehow the soreness comforted her.
By the time she woke up, more hours seemed to have passed. She glanced at the time on an antique clock. It was after nine, which meant she had missed breakfast, and if Mrs. Hampstead had her way again, she’d be getting a soggy sandwich.
But first she had to call Laura.
After an hour of talking, Sutton told her sister most everything but the more she spoke the more surreal it sounded even to her own ears. But it was true. They were going to live their best lives. They would have the funds to do so.
The money had already been deposited into her account, and after sending Laura a screenshot of her bank balance, she told her sister to start looking at countries she wanted to live in.
She was going to miss the Masters of Basilisk once she had their child. She hated the knot in her heart at the thought of never seeing them again, so she quickly pushed it aside although that was very hard to do. They consumed her thoughts. There was never a moment she wasn’t thinking about them.
Next, how on earth was she going to tell Tammy she went from being a temp at their company to the woman who was going to have their baby? Tammy was not going to believe her. And she didn’t. Well not at first. Just like with Laura, Sutton had to give them a watered down version which was basically that the billionaires had paid her to have their child. Nothing about any secret societies or rituals.
Hungrier now than ever, and feeling apprehensive about having to deal with Mrs. Hampstead, she showered and changed into a summer dress and sandals, which she supposed were what she would be wearing now since it was very clear she wouldn’t be working anymore at all. Her job was to spend their money and have their baby. Easier said than done, she supposed.
But a huge smile spread across her face. She couldn’t imagine never having to worry about money again. Or how she was possibly going to take care of her sister and her children. The feeling was liberating, but when her stomach started to rumble with violence, her smile disappeared at the thought of having to face Mrs. Hampstead.
Except when she reached the kitchen, Mrs. Hampstead was nowhere in sight. In her place, trying to make pancakes or something like that, was Briella.
“My Lady, you’re awake.”
“Briella?”
“Yes. Can you believe it? I’m your new housekeeper. I told the Masters I couldn’t cook, but they said it was fine. Can you believe it? I’m so honored to be here to serve you, my lady.”
“But what happened to Mrs. Hampstead? And please, just call me Sutton.”
“Oh, I believe they fired Mrs. Hampstead. It all happened so fast, and they told me you seemed to like me. So, one minute, I was scrubbing floors in the monastery, and now I’m your housekeeper.”
They fired Mrs. Hampstead? Did her expression when they told her Mrs. Hampstead would be taking care of her really give her away?
She didn’t know what to make of it, and the warm glow inside her was even more cryptic.
Sutton ended up making breakfast for them both, but she was so glad for the company that she wanted to hug her. Briella, determined to earn her keep, went about checking in on the maid service and doing housekeeping things.
When Sutton’s phone rang again and it was Laura on the other end, a feeling of doom spread over her.
“Aunty—Dad is here. He’s going to kill us, please come—” The terrified whispers of her niece turned her stomach over.
“Mandy? Mandy?”
The line had gone dead. Ice filled her veins. Without thinking, she grabbed a handful of car keys from a bowl in their entrance hall. At the same time, she called the police and gave them the address of the farm.
