The room turns silent.
She steps in front of Cathal. "Well? Did ya?"
My heart races faster. From the corner of my eye, I catch the guilt in his expression.
Fucking pussy.
He's never been able to go neutral.
She erupts, "Ya stupid assholes! How could ya sleep with them?"
"Sorry. Were they wearing chastity belts we weren't aware of?" I ask.
Alaina steps in front of me. She jabs me in the chest. "This isn't a joke, Devin. Ya put all of us at risk, and ya had no right to do anything with an O'Leary woman!"
I tilt my head. "For someone who made a pledge to the O'Connors, claiming to be done with the O'Learys, you sure do seem to still have a lot of loyalty toward them."
Alaina's eyes darken.
Brody steps next to her. "Ya better watch your tone and remember who you're talking to."
I groan inside. I hate how both Alaina and Brody rule our family. I would've liked it better if he did it alone. Alaina's way more ruthless than he is, in my book, not that I'd ever tell her that. My brother just looks like a pussy in my eyes. I wouldn't let any woman rule next to me.
But I have to give her credit. Alaina's a badass. We're way better off as a clan with her than without her.
Alaina seethes, "You know damn well O'Leary women don't have choices."
"Says who?" I ask, arching my eyebrows, and then I glance at Cathal, Brogan, and Tynan, questioning, "Did we not give them choices the other night before they spread their legs?"
Alaina reaches back and slaps my cheek so hard my face turns toward the window.
A sting flares across it. I clench my jaw, put my hand over my cheek, and slowly meet her eye.
Fire ignites in her expression. Her green eyes glow like a wild animal ready to kill its prey. She lowers her voice, but it's shaking. "The women in the O'Leary clan do not have choices. It's not right for ya to do what ya did and take advantage of them."
I maintain my ground. "I didn't take advantage of anyone. Nobody did anything to anyone that they didn't want to do. So can we make that clear? Unlike the men in your clan, we don't force women to do things."
"It's not my clan anymore," Alaina reiterates.
"Isn't it? Ya seem a little bit loyal to them for a bunch of barmaids," I repeat, in an effort to upset her further.
"Barmaids?" The color drains in Alaina's face.
"Don't tell me ya have extra respect for barmaids," I mutter.
Brody warns, "Don't ya keep talking to my wife that way. Show some respect."
My face hardens and I clench my fist at the side of my body. This is exactly why I don't need any O'Leary women in my life. They're just a pain in the ass.
Alaina puts her hand on her belly again and says, "Tell me ya didn't sleep with Lauren."
The hairs on my neck rise. "Why?"
Alaina shakes her head in anger at me. She wags her finger near my face and snarls, "Of course it would be you! Ya idiot. Caleb will kill ya!"
I grunt. "I'm not afraid of Caleb."
"Ya slept with his girlfriend!"
