I grab her ass and lean into her ear, murmuring, "Everything will be fine. I won't let him out of my sight, I promise."
She looks up and smiles. "I know."
"All right, angel. Have fun." I kiss her cheek and grab Dominick. "Come on, son. We've got manly things to do today."
Bridget looks at me and orders, "Out. Now."
"I'm leaving." I step into the hallway, and the door shuts. I toss Dominick in the air and tickle him until he laughs. I'm happier than I've ever been, knowing my life is finally complete.
And come hell or high water, no one, and I mean no one, will ever touch my son or wife again. I'll protect them no matter what I have to do, and if anyone even tries to come for them, they won't be breathing for long.
Dominick's laughs subside, and I hold him close to me. "Let's go, buddy. Today's going to be the greatest day ever."
EPILOGUE
Lauren
Devin leans down and kisses our son on the head, then gives me a peck on the lips. "I'll be back soon." He leaves the den.
Annie picks up the baby and coos, "He's adorable. I just can't get over him."
"I can't believe ya named him after me," Dominick states for the hundredth time, grinning from ear to ear.
"Well, Devin didn't want him to be called Devin Jr., and there wasn't any other name I would even consider," I admit, so happy I finally get to call my son what I wanted instead of Caleb Jr.
Annie kisses my son and hands him to her husband, saying, "He's such a good boy. Look at that smile."
I add, "I'm so happy ya could come stay for a while."
Annie nods. "We are too. We're just glad you're okay. Both of ya."
"I really am sorry for everything I put ya through," I repeat for the tenth time today.
"Hush, dear. We've already gone through this," Annie insists.
Guilt eats at me. I confess, "I know, but I keep thinking about when Dominick got hurt."
He waves his hand in front of me. "Oh, shush. I'm a tough man."
I laugh. "Yea, ya sure are."
The phone rings, pulling me out of my trance. I jump up. "Oh, Devin forgot his phone. Let me go give it to him." I grab his phone off the desk and run after him, shouting, "Devin!"
He turns back toward me. "What's up, angel?"
"Ya forgot your phone. Oh, it's... What?" I stare at the screen.
"What is it?" he asks, his eyes turning to slits.
I show him the screen. "Why is Tynan sending a picture of Maeve?"
Devin swipes on the glass and opens the message. The blood drains from his face. He mutters, "Ya have to be kidding me."
"What's wrong? Is she okay?" I fret.
It took me a while to get over everything Maeve did, but I finally gave her a pass. Tully was right. She was in a crappy position. While it's still hard sometimes to think about the fact that Caleb was there because of her, she did risk her life to save my son. I've never been happier than now, having Devin and Dominick with me. I can't deny she had something to do with my happiness. So, I'm letting the past be the past, and I'm just concentrating on the future.
"That son of a bitch," Devin seethes.
