"I would have gotten notified too. Something else is going on. Drop me off at my place first."
I scowl at him. "No. It's an emergency."
He grumbles, "Come on, bro. I got a lot of stuff to do today."
"Tough shit. Deal with it," I mutter and turn down the road leading to Brody and Alaina's mansion.
It only takes a little while to get there. I ignore the rest of my brother's whines, pull through the gate, and get out of the car.
Tynan slides down, pulling his hoodie over his head. He orders, "Try to hurry up."
I don't reply. I go into the house and run into Brody, asking, "Where's your wife?"
His face hardens. He nods toward his office.
"Why is Alaina in your office, but you're out here?" I question.
He admits, "She asked me to step outside."
"Why?"
"There's a visitor," he declares.
More uneasiness fills me. I peer closer at him. "What visitor?"
Disapproval fills his expression. "Tommy's sister."
I blurt out, "Lauren's mum's here?"
"Aye. And that woman might just be worse than Tommy."
I push past him and go into his office. Alaina rises, and Lauren's mum turns in her chair. She gives me the same look of hatred she did at her house.
"Is something wrong with Lauren?" I ask, concerned.
Her mum bolts out of her chair and comes at me, jabbing my chest. "What have you done with her?"
Confusion fills me. "What do ya mean, what have I done with her?"
She jabs me harder.
I grab her hand, warning, "Don't do that."
She gives me such a dirty look that I can practically see fumes coming from her skull. Her voice shakes angrily, demanding, "Whatever you've done with my daughter, give her back to me."
My pulse skyrockets. "I don't know what you're talking about."
Alaina interjects, "Lauren's been missing for two weeks."
My eyes widen. "Missing? And you're just telling us now?"
"Ya know where she is! It's not a coincidence ya were in town. So what did ya do with her?" her mum accuses.
I shake my head. "I don't know anything about this, but ya need to calm down so we can figure this out."
"Calm down? My daughter is missing! And ya know where she is!" she insists.
Alaina asserts, "Kathleen, Devin's right. Ya need to calm down."
