“Xandra.”
“Andrews.”
Oscar and I seem to speak at the same moment, our tones both deadly in nature.
“Off!”
I don’t know why we’re thinking alike, but the dual order has my Wildflower blinking in surprise while Kane further leans in to whisper, “So y’all don’t have a kink between the three of you? Because that right there is some possessive shit.”
“Nope,” Xandra whispers but adds, “But if they’re going to be possessive like that, I may be interested.”
Wait. What did she just say?
“Can I apply?” Kane whispers.
“No!” I, Oscar, and even Diesel declare in unison, leaving them to blink in surprise.
The thump to our left draws all our eyes onto the kitten that’s sitting next to Armani’s phone.
“Meow.”
“Oscar?! Is that a fucking cat? Do not tell me you kept that little piece of—” His words are cut off by the single finger that presses the end call.
Mackenzie’s finger.
“Yeah, I don’t miss that douche one little bit.”
I don’t know if it’s the way she said it or the obvious annoyance in her expression that makes all this absolutely hilarious, but all four of us our laughing in seconds.
“I forgot how only Mack can get us into these weird as fuck situations,” Kane laughs.
“Weird and surprisingly funny as hell,” Diesel chips in.
“Nice reminder, Andrews,” Oscar chuckles.
“Man, I really did forget about these moments,” I admit and allow myself to relax a bit. Some would feel weirded out sitting on another man’s lap after a fall like that, but right now, with these four individuals, I remember the days when I didn’t worry about judgment.
Just being surrounded by good company and the girl I’m absolutely smitten with.
“Well, I’m glad I can make you all laugh,” Xandra declares and has a wide grin on those irresistible lips. “Kane, Diesel, long time. What are you guys doing here?”
“Hey, Mack,” Kane greets. “You grew up nicely.”
Mack rolls her eyes as she elbows him.
“And you actually have a six back under there,” she barks back. “Nice to see you, too. Thanks for moving me out of disaster.”
“I’m sure he did it so he wouldn’t get scolded by those two,” Diesel begins as he stands in front of the two and offers his hands. “We came to fetch our team’s new goalie, so we can head to Strattonville Stadium to learn who our coach is for the season.” He gives a slight smirk in Xandra’s direction. “Good to see you’re alive and kicking, Mack. Last I heard, you beat the shit out of some douche who looked at you the wrong way.”
“Is that what people still say around here?” She hums and gives a nervous grin before placing her hand in his. “Look at me? I’m an innocent, average girl. I wouldn’t hurt a fly.”
“Yeah, right,” Oscar, Kane, and Diesel mutter.
“Hey!” Xandra huffs.
Oscar pats my shoulder, reminding me that I’m still in his lap.
“My bad,” I quietly mutter before scrambling up. I try to turn and offer him a hand, but he’s already squatted low and rising up in one smooth movement. “You do Yoga?”
